10 weeks post TLHR and still walking with sti

After 10 weeks I am still walking with a stick when outside. Tried without but just got slower and slower due to discomfort.

Muscle in buttock and rear thigh feels tight and discomfort in joint

Is this normal for 10 weeks!

Barry, This sounds normal to me. I am 14 weeks out. When I go for a brisk morning walk, I use trekking poles. In the last week or two, I have gone without a stick for walks to restaurants, etc. I’m just getting comfortable doing that. Am still walking slower than normal but back at week 10, I could not have done that.

Dear Barry, if you are only using one stick then I urge you to revert to two. Cheers Richard

Hi Barry,

Quality of your gait much more important than the speed. It will come but don't rush to ditch sticks or exercises. The body went through a lot. Take care.

Yes! I suffered with that horrible pain in my bum cheek for weeks too, only recently and I'm 3months, it starts to go as your hip gets stronger. Keep up with the walking and exercises. Good luck x

I am post left THR. I still used a crutch  for 2 months after the op my gait is not good as I look like I still have a limp. I have to really concentrate on walking without one.

Normal?  One person's normal is another persons abnormal in this recovery.

All depends on your level of activity before, surgeon skill, your physio, and luck.

As Richard says, if you're having problems, there's no shame in going back to two sticks for a while, it's far better than developing a limp.  Sometimes we just need that little extra help to get over the next stage in our recovery.

Best wishes

Graham

Well, I'm 14mos PO and still limping and using a cane - but I'm trying very hard to correct that. My situation is different than most but I can say with glute and quad strengthening exercises, I finally have hope I'll get to some

sort of normalcy soon. My Physical Therapist has me doing exercises that target the glutes. Clams with a resistance band, side leg lifts just to name two. You might ask your Dr or physio if you can do any exercises. But 10 weeks is still early.

Thank you all for your positive comments.

It was my first post and it's great to talk with people who have had the same experience

Hi Barry it is 10 weeks since for me too, l am using one stick, my consultant said l will know when it feels right to go without my stick, l have set off without it then reliased, my buttock also hurts off and on and the wound at the top, I feel like i am doing ok, good luck

Hi linda

Its good to know its as expected for 10 weeks.

I will keep you posted.

I've had similar discomfort in front and side of thigh. Now, almost 5 months post THR and I decided to use a cane for a little while. Helped a lot and I was able to walk better/faster without any discomfort. I'm planning to use 2 trek poles when I want to walk longer distances. I have heard it can take months to be at 100% so am going with that. Fortunately no hip pain since surgery.

No!!!! In August it will be two years and the groin pain seems to be getting Worse. If u find something that works for you please Share.
