Hi I am 4 weeks post op since my left hip was done. I have my right hip done in September. This last weekend felt like I hit a brick wall. I really struggled with the pain. I went back through all the information the hospital gave me and looked at a lot of the info. posts made by the great folk of this forum Thank you. I have realised now why I was in so much pain and the pain killers were not even touching it. Foot pumps. You got to do your foot pumps at least to keep your blood flowing. I am having great difficulty in doing anything but foot pumps while laying on the bed or a little walking because my right leg is so painful and is getting worse now I have to put at leasrt some weight onto it more than before my left hip was done. I think I may even have to have both knees done in the end also. I am only 8 months since having a total hystorectomy also.
This hip replacement will be my 6th operation in just over 3 years so I do feel like an NHS lab rat and feel I have just about had enough of hospitals. My stay in hospital was not a good one. I had problems with some of the nurses and some of the women on my ward were non too friendlly either.
Oh my goodness you have suffered much.looks like more to come. Try to take a few deep breaths sit and try to relax.please give your self time to heal.hip surgery takes a long time. For the prostheses and the bone to develop new bone to attach to the new device.having the next hip surgery so soon may be difficult for you. However you will heal from all this and you future looks really good. Blessings to you.
hi hailea ... wow .. that is a lot you are dealing with ... I agree with ginger's response - it takes time - it seems that we all expect a speedier recovery, mostly based on the stories before surgery - at least I did/do ... with the help of these fellow hippies here I feel a lot better and have to think that I am healing at my own pace - there are days that I feel so discouraged and it is easy to go down hill
from there .... as for the knees ... my knees were hurting much more before surgery and still are, but less - they are doing their best to support me ...
be kind to your self ... you are going to be fine ... promise !!!!
Thank you for you're replies ginger and renee. Much appreciated. Having another bad day today. Right leg really painful. Left leg not so bad. The scar is healing well. Only two areas still have scabs on them. They are red and sore but no discharge. Been using Bio oil on the fully healed areas. Seeing my surgeon next Thursday ( 21st May ) and hoping he will let me go for hydrotherapy to help me exercise. I am also hoping he will let me go without the stockings. They are like medieval torture devices.
