Hi hippies, getting very fedup I am 9 weeks po and still having alot of pain. I am walking unaided now but just want to be pain fee. I am still taking pain killers. Anyone else like this I seem to only hear people after 3/4 po how well they are doing etc etc. Pauline
Aww Pauline....I can understand your frustration!! What kind of pain are you having?? Where? I had to be 6 weeks non weight bearing. I am on my 5th week, one more to go!! So not sure if I'll be having pain. Prayers that all will get better for you. Hugs, 🤗🤗. LD
Hi Pauline
i'm 14 weeks post op, swollen ankles, knee and still have a sore bum! Sitting with my feet up and ice pack to try and reduce the swelling. I manage approx 10,000 steps a day and go to a small pool five days a week
in my wildest dreams I never thought that when I came out of hospital I would feel like doing any of it!! Small triumphs every day, and I mean small, just keep me going, so I hope this will give you hope.
hugs xxxx
Hi,
I'm 9 weeks tomorrow and still got some pain in bum from incision (had posterior approach) and a lot of leg pain which gets worse in the evening. This is due to my back though apparently.
I walk about two miles a day and aim to build this up and yes it gets sore but I know I need to do it. I start at the gym next week so that will help too.
It's still early days. Give yourself time, everyone heals at different rates but we all will get there in the end. When I look back two or three weeks ago I'm still amazed at how much progress I'm making.

5.5 weeks still on painkillers, walking unadided but walking awful! Well feels to me like it looks awful My lower back hurt due to walking with a limp, the cane makes me limp more, I have been slacking on exercises as they really make me hurt, I guess no pain no gain. It is a major surgery, I think we shouldn't judge ourselves to harshly until the 4 month mark. I hope you feel better.

Hang in there we are all different.
I am 4 wks po. I guess I baby myself. I'm doing good to take 1000-2000!steps per day. I rest a lot. Take Tylenol or Aleve and ice as needed. I seem to be progressing well. I can walk without my cane occasionally. If I walk unaided too much, my leg lets me know and I slow down. I just started driving taking short trips as when I use gas pedal too much, my femur hurts.
I am amazed you are getting by with Aleve and Tylenol, so far today ( uup 8 hours) but took one hydrocodone 7.5 mg, but was so stiff this morning. good lukc for 3 weeks you are doing great, I was still with my cane full time.
Ah Pauline I know exactly what you feel like my op was way back in April, TBH I was 10 or 12 weeks post op before I started work on getting off the PK's. I reduced them down very slowly as I was on tramadol. I still have back pain but it's getting more used to the idea of me being 'normal' again, if I was ever normal lol. The hip/movement has vastly improved from about week 14 so plenty of time for you, I am still improving. I spoke to someone the other day and she was 18months and still feeling she was getting better every month. So keep going and do the excercises, I still do mine or a cease up.
Hi Pauline,
I am a year post RTHR on Sunday, I had to have morphine tablets as I cannot take codeine or tramadol for the first I had cut them down by week 6 to twice a day and off of them at 8 weeks, still needed paracetamol. I had nerve damage so had amitryptaline for a month after that which helped. I also had an infection post op that no one knows what caused it. I was off of crutches by week 6 due to bullying physio, no sticks! back to work at 8 weeks! could have done with a few more weeks but no pay! All I can say is my pain was blooming grim in the first 8 weeks, everytime I moved. I persevered with the exercises. I can honestly say I didnt feel well until 6 months post op. It was like a new beginning one morning I woke up and pow I felt really well. I can see improvements all the time now. Muscles can take up to two years to heal my consultant said and some days they go tight and lumpy, I massage them and get the osteopath to iron me out. After all of this I do not regret it, I have a hip that moves, an no pain and I can dance and play with my 3 yr old grandson. Hang in their love, it will get better xx
I had my first hip in february and my second 5 and a half weeks ago...i went back to work after 5 weeks with the first hip and had alot of discomfort that lasted for about 3 months but with the second hip my doctor gave me a muscle relaxer...robaxin and its like night and day...no pain after about week 3...ask you surgery about it. :-)
hi pauline,
warm welcome to the hippies forum - well, you are not alone anymore -
personal experiences and stories are shared here -
we all have heard those stories about people who were up and about, doing things they never even did pre-op, at 3-4 weeks post-op - yes, there are definitely a lot of them - more realistic though is that it will take time - you just had major invasive surgery - (Youtube has a life hip surgery video -) your body needs to heal from the trauma -
There is NO GAIN IN PAIN after THR surgery - when it hurts, STOP -
it is perfectly okay to push yourself and do more, but again, stop when it hurts - your body is letting you know that it is too much right now -
walking unaided is something we are desperate for and often start doing so way too soon - the body is not in balance by far and still so fragile - it needs all the support -
be patient darling and gentle with yourself ..
big warm hug
renee
