Hi I am still sore at the top of thigh! Have to force myself back to my carers role! As social services are expecting me to be back to normal! But have problems with my right knee as well! Am doing my level best! Still on pain meds at night!did ironing today and had to clean oven! Am on 1crutch in house! But suffer from anxiety as well! Had to have ga as spinàl block was not for me! Regards Amanda
Hi Amanda:
I have had a THR Right side. March 9th, .. I'm still using a walker 98% if te time.
I have been getting pain at the front of my upper thigh too! I am imagining them strechting my ligaments to cover the replaced bone in my leg. Or I maybe imagining it. If you'e getting pain there to it's no doubt a normal thing. But, I do think I have my operated leg longer than my left leg now. I seem to walk kind of funny on my bad side still.??
I hope your's goes according to the book!
keep up the good work!
Mary from Ontario, Canada
Hi Amanda
Don't let your job push you to go back to early you have had major surgery and if you push it to soon you could set yourself back.
If your suffering from anxiety ask your GP for some amitriptyline 10mg it was used originally as.an antidepressant but is now used for anxiety and nerve pain which I had it for.
If you experience knee pain and thigh pain this is normal but if it appears in your groin get in touch with the Dr.
I had 4 months off work and went back on crutches albeit I have a desk job.
Being a carer you need to be 100 per cent.
If they get difficult asked your GP to write to them. Also Ice packs help with knee and thigh pain.
I really hope you get better soon, look after yourself.
Nicky
Hi Amada, I'm four weeks p/o , had latest minimal invasive proccedure and no way i'm gonna be back to normal next week! You need to watch you dont rush yourself out of using an aid , " Don't start yourself off with a limp early doors" to quote my pysio. (btw I also had ga, surgeons preference, but fine by me and im a 6 foot strapping bloke of 46, if i say so myself
) but seriously social services are gonna be lookin after you aswell if they push you too soon... tell em that
or better yet get your gp to tell them!
Hi Mary , the pain in front of my thigh is only now getting better at 11 weeks . Physio said its cause muscles are weak . Exercising as much as i can .my limp seems to have gone this week , fingers crossed.

Hi Nicky! I am a full time carer for my hubby! Social services are want in.g me to be a lot more active! We have carers each day ! But I am over doing things! Regards Amanda
Hi Amanda
Sorry for the misunderstanding, you are in a very difficult situation.Social services are under pressure but don't let them force you into anything your not ready for as soon as you say your ok that extra help will go and is very hard to get back. You have a right as a person and carer to have there full support take all the help you can and more and do not feel bad for
Kind regards
Nicky
Oh Amanda, how frustrating it must be for anyone to expect that you would be back to normal at only 5 weeks. Fight for your rights to heal at your own pace. As you know, you have just undergone a very major surgery and you might need to educate those around you about that.
You have only one chance to heal right and you cannot be pushed through your recovery!
Keep on doing the best you can and I am with you in Spirit. I have just begun my 6th week post op, but cannot yet put full weight upon my revised hip due to the repairs needed in the revision.
I wish you the best outcome and we are here to support you!

Mary, not to draw attention away from dear Amanda, and perhaps I have asked you this before? But I grew up part of my life in Cobourg, Ontario and always like to check to see if we have anything in common, or know any people in common.

So good to hear from others- it's very reassuring.
I am 5 weeks post op (revision) today and my thigh hurts! This is due to spending yesterday on the shingle beach, climbing up slopes and walking quite a lot. Lots of fun with the grandchildren but today I need a rest day.
Just sharing my experience...
We had fun, testing ways of getting up from the floor without breaking the 90 degree rule. (The younger ones, not me) The only way we found was a complicated roll over, leaning on one hand... Looked too difficult for me! Any better ideas?
Good luck everyone
You have got to tell Social Services that it can take up to 6 to 9 months to get back to normal sometimes and tell them they can watch a video of the operation if they go to the NHS site. We all know you are doing your best and it is very difficult sometimes to look after yourself let alone take on the role of resident carer too. I hope all goes well for you. Good luck.
