Hello I suffer from both general and health anxiety and have recently been having some counselling. I suppose I am like other sufferers who worry about anything and everything however whilst I get symptoms which would be regarded as anxiety symptoms one of my main problems is to do with illness. I am 70 years old and have several health problems and of course I always thing the worse when it comes to tests etc. I wanted to ask exactly what is classed as agraphobia. I can go out shopping visit relatives and also sing in a choir so go to rehearsals. What I can't do is sing in any performances or go to visit family 4 hours drive away because I know I will be in pain and will not be able to come home it is not to do with feeling I might have a panic attack etc. I have 2 visits coming up to grandchildren and a family wedding in the summer. I am already starting to worry about it. I am worried about feeling unwell and I get the feeling that my husband just expects me to put up with it when all I want to do is lay down with a hot water bottle. I wont bore you with my health problems but I do know that experience has shown me that on these occasions when I am more physical I always end up not well. The other thing is that I hate the heat and as the Wedding is in August it could be hot. If it is my hair will just drip with water and I will be uncomfortable and miserable this happens every time. My daughter who lives near me thinks I have agraphobia as well as anxiety. I am not sure I was under the impression that agraphobia meant that you could not leave the house and hated crowds and you are worried of making a fool of yourself. Can someone tell if I am wrong on this. Thank you.
Hi,
Agoraphobia is often a symptom of being deficient in D3. B12 might also be low. Try to get D3 supplements and see if your fear of leaving the house gets less. If notice changes within days it could be that you are severely deficient. Get a good brand!
Thanks for your reply. I am already on vitaminD3/calcium chewable tablets. Here is the story when I lived in london a few years ago I was prescribed D3 as I was found to have osteopenia also the orthopaedic consultant suggested them. I was put on 2,200iu. This was reduced by half when my levels went to high but put back up again because although the levels were acceptable they wanted them higher. When I moved here to Greater Manchester my gp said the recommended dose for osteopenia is 400iu plus calcium. I told my gp exactly what I have outlined here but she insisted I did not need anymore. As far as levels are concerned they were first found to be 39 then with the 2,200 they went up to 70 then when they reached 100 the dose was reduced this brought it down to 50 but they wanted it a bit higher hence it was upped again. If I remember the level is now 50 something and gp is satisfied with that. B12 is interesting I had an aunt with pernicious anemia. I have asked once again my gp about this but she said that if the other blood tests they do are ok then they don't check any further. I have a lot of health issues and the anxiety plus my husband has as well so I have accepted what she says.
You may have miss understood what I said I can leave the house as I go shopping visiting family and choir rehearsal once a week. It is long journeys that are a problems not so much the travelling. The packing and preparing to go really makes me anxious and having to stay in hotels etc and not be able to just relax on my own sofa when in pain. There are other thing connected to where I am going what I will be doing and certain health problems which I won;t bore you with. Thanks for your interest and your advice.
