Alcohol - advice?

Hi, no one has mentioned alcohol here yet, I think. I've simply been drinking moderately, a few glasses on wine and a pint weekly - but wondered if this was Ok in this healing space?

Personally I wouldn't touch alcohol while your on post op medication..always read the notes that come with your tablets.

I was not allowed to drink a week before the op and then decided, much against my normal intake, not to drink for four weeks after. I am pretty sure it helped as my recovery was very speedy.

Cheers !!!!

Hi didn't feel like drinking for about 4 weeks post op . I was so tired and it would have made me feel worse . I have cut diwn on meds so have a glass of wine occasionally at home . Wouldn't drink too much until you are really steady on feet .

Hi Mic no one enjoys a glass of wine more than me but i cannot stand the smell oc it probably a good thing lol

i can't drink at the moment because I can't drive & my partner won't buy me any until I'm off the crutches. It's an incentive to get walking again! Most medication advises against alcohol but i've never taken any notice & always been ok.

Hi Val bit like yourself but wine is off the menu lol wont be long till your driving i was driving a bkt at a time at 6 weeks take care

Thanks for feedback....promise to go easy on the red wine...even south african pinotage!

Hi

I stopped drinking and taking my fish oil supplement a week before my op.

A week after stopping my op medications ( cleared from my system ) I have resumed.....

I too also like a glass of wine...or two ....but having only just got home from my op it's the last thing on my mind at the moment.  Like everyone has said, it can't be good to mix with your medication.

lol...I'm hoping it'll  put me off for life, save us some money!!

My only medication is daily Asprin...But Point Taken NOT Too Much While My Body Adjusts.

Cheers

Mic

I don't really drink except at Christmas or maybe one glass of wine when we go out for a meal about every 2 months, but a couple of times I had a small whisky before going to bed.  I then fell asleep straight away and slept all night!

Mic,

I am 8 weeks post op THR.  I do not take any pain medications, just advil in the morning and some vitamins. I have been afraid to drink because I didnt want to retain any fluid.  I quite smoking too (66 days ago), so a  beer would be awesome right now. Think I just might have one or two this weekend.... Hi mic I was on blood thinning tablets for 32days post op and one definitely shouldn't drink whilst taking these, I don't know but would presume this is the same with blood thinning injections as the obviously the alcohol would affect the blood.

A special well done for quitting smoking, I am having a nice vodka and diet coke, I am only taking co codemal when I can't stand the pain which is in my back. Went to physio today I am 5 weeks and 3days post op they say I should take short walks without my crutch as have only been using one for sometime, not bad for a 68 year old. Enjoy your tipple.

absolutely- have done the same

just watch out it doesnt knock you out completely if you have taken a lot of painkiller
