Anxiety causing googles symptoms?

hi i was just wondering if anyone knows if anxiety to cause you to have symptoms you just googled. for example i googled an illness and it said pain in legs. then i got pain in my legs. is this possible?

hi yes completely your brain sends signals to make you believe you have that pain because you are thinking about it. it's happened to me countless times when I have been googling about cancer as I have serious health anxiety. stop worrying you're fine xx

hey hun, I'm gunna be honest with u hun!! iv been addicted to looking on the internet for my symtems of my mental health and that's the worst thing u can do ur just terriosing urself hun!! remeber the internet ain't always right!! and the best advice I can give is go to the professionals even my own therpist told me to stop because it's doing more damage! if ur really worried speak to ur doctor hun! x

i hope everything works out for you

thank you so much for replying! i feel much better now. its crazy how powerful the brain is. are you seeing anyone for your anxiety? im currently seeing a psychiatrist for bipolar disorder and am attempting to obtain a therapist.

i know i really shouldnt be doing it but its so tempting. i am trying to stop myself. ive actually already been to the doctor and they said i was fine. just cant help that nagging feeling!

thank you so much! kind words like that really make a huge difference! i hope all goes well for you also!

hi jade no I'm not seeing anyone, I have in the past but it doesnt seem to work for me, I think I'm a lost cause lol. I suffer with really bad health anxiety and over think everything, especially when it comes down to mine or my families health. my partner or daughter will say that they have a pain somewhere and I will start asking them exactly where it is, what the pain feels like and how long they've had it, then I google those symptoms, I do the same with myself, I'm terrible. I know I shouldnt but I just cant help myself. I have come to learn that the brain is very powerful, and I now know that by thinking about certain symptoms, it makes me believe I have them. hope you are feeling a bit more positive. big hugs xx

yes, it happens to me all the time.. and i hate it. i also have health anxiety just as some of the other people in the comments.

thank you jade i only try :)haha even though we are sad we should smile :)

this is very common. its all in your mind. just tell yourself that you dont have pain in your legs and then the feeling should go away.

good advice :)

its not the easiest to tell yourself the feeling is not there, but once you accept and understand how anxiety will make you have "false symptoms" they become easier to handle

i had a bad accident and it led to insane anxiety and overthinking but its never good to make rash decisions when you feel this way i tottally agree with everything you are saying :)

i do the same with my partner as well! always googling his symptoms and even go so far as to check if hes breathing when hes sleeping and sick. i hope that one day you re think getting help for this. perhaps you havent found the right therapist or method. you deserve to have stable mental health and to be happy!

i have chronic pancreatitis and diabetes and have been in and out of the hospital for both for years. apparently its really common for someone with health anxiety to have had some kind of accident or to have been diagnosed with some sort of affliction.

im hoping to be able to understand and accept it better soon. should be seeing a therapist within the next few weeks. its the first thing im going to ask to work on.

yeah its not easy but hopefully it gets better over time x

just reading through your post as I suffer really bad with health anxiety , and I definitely have symptoms allege after reading them on Google
.

and oh my , I am so glad I am not the only who tk also Google Google symptoms of family members !! seriously thought I was the only one to do this

any time my husband /mum / dad have snhtjkng slightly wrong with them or mention anything I am straight in google !! NY husband suffered with headaches a few months ago , I was in such a state due to being pregnant and I thought there was something seriously wrong with him(brain tumors) . i would constantly ring him at work to see how he was etc , I would then google his Symptoms (turns out he just needed glasses) . he then got food posing and ended up in hospital , as you can imagine I was in a state

anxiety is such a horrible thing, and I really dont think unless people have experienced it they honestly do not know how awful it is.

yes i totally agree with you danielle hope youre well x
