I think I haveanxiety problems I centre ruminate a lot. I can’t get something that happened out of my mind like a social interaction with somebody. I replay it replay it then I started developing problems where I would breathe and then I feel like I have to yawn or breathe deeply all the time. Now it’s a habit when I get anxiety I have breathing problems has anyone else had this.
It sounds like your panicking due to the anxiety, try some mindfulness when you get like this, or find a coping technique, like focusing on something different, anxiety plays havoc with my heart, to the point of feeling like I’m going to black out, and concentrating on my breathing gives me focus; keep a paper bag with you, its old fashioned but works as an instant calmer, and helps you regulate your breathing.
I have used box breathing as a way of regulating breathing successfully.
Quite simply, all you do is breathe in for the count of two, hold for two, breathe out for two, and then hold again for two. Then repeat.
It gently forces you to concentrate on breathing rather than what’s in your head. Meditation and mindfulness techniques are also really good.
Overthinking can cause us a lot of problems, breathing being one of them. Oliver’s suggestion of box breathing is a good practice. Also, trying to live in the moment helps with overthinking. It’s not easy but concentrating on what’s going on now, instead of past or future can help. I’m having to do a lot of that now. Learn to sit and be still and observe something in the present. Rain slowly moving down a window pane, a bee on a flower, anything that takes you from past thoughts. This relaxes you. We miss a lot of now by thinking too much in the past.
