Anyone Had Any Experience With Recurring Ovarian Cysts?

I had a laparotomy for a 22cm cyst 8 weeks ago, after being in a lot of a pain still my dr referred me to the hospital for a scan. The scan revealed that the cyst is back already! It's 7cm x 7cm and I am only 8 weeks post op.

I have been referred straight back to gynaecology and I am absolutely distraught.

I am still not back at work due to the pain and the Dr has signed me off for a further two weeks as I am likely to need more surgery. As any of you will know this whole experience is traumatic enough without having to deal with it twice in such a short space of time. I spent all of the first day crying as weak as that sounds!

Has as anyone heard of this beforehand? If so, what has happened? I am so upset at having to start right at the beginning again

That's awful news, I'm sorry to hear it. I'm having my first surgery on Monday and one of the things I keep telling myself is 'at least it will be over soon'. For you to have to go through it again is just horrible sad

is there a reason why it's happened again?

I don't know, I asked lots of questions when I spoke to my GP but she just said that I would be best off talking to the specialists. I wonder whether they left a little bit behind by accident? I had a nice lady help me out with my appointment last time and she actually came to see me on the day of my surgery to make sure everything had gone ok. I have emailed her asking her what I should do as she is the head of appointments so should be able to send me in the right way

are you nervous about your surgery? How big is your cyst? Mine was 22cm and it was my first surgery too, it was so scary running up to it but it was absolutely fine. You have a nap and it's all done. So much better than I thought! Hope you are not worrying yourself too much

I'm still not nervous thankfully. Had a lovely weekend with my mum so that's distracted me. I go in tonight at 8pm so I'll be nervous then I expect!

My cyst is at least 35cm apparently. They can't track it properly because of the size so it'll be interesting to find out for sure.

Thanks for the reassurance smile

Hi Beccy,

Sorry you having such a bad time!

It's strange that the cyst came back that quickly! they do say that cysts often come back, and ovarian cysts in general are common.

Ive had 2 cysts, but not sure in the space that it grew as they didnt do another scan until 2 years after 1st op.

I wonder if they perhaps didn't remove it all? although it sounds unlikely.

Really hope that they remove it, and you don't have anymore pain!

Good luck x

They definitely did remove it as it was 22cm! I looked pregnant! Haha they also took a photo for me mid op so I have even seen the cyst. It is totally possible that they left a little though of course. Just so disappointing that it is back already! I have my appointment on Friday so hope that this one moves quickly!

Were your cysts big? Are you still dealing with them? X

Wow! 35cm is huge! I hope that your op went well and you are recovering well! Update us when you can x

My cysts were only 2 and 5cm, and at the time i thought 5cm was big lol.

I had them both removed by laprscopy. I suffer with endometriosis, as well as the cysts, the endometriosis is always likely to come back too, though they only remove it, if its causing a problem.

I've had 3 laproscopys, but am now on medication that is helping me with pain and other symptoms.

My last scan i had showed a burst cyst on my ovary and a small cyst in my kidney, which as there not causing a real problem they will leave them alone for now.

Good luck for friday. hope you get rid of the cysts for good! x

Hi beccy have you got your date for going in and how are you feeling x

Hi Bev! So sorry for the super later reply, I haven't been on here and don't seem to get notifications any more! I am going in on Sept 1st so drawing close now.... I can't wait to have this over and done with so I can get on with life and stop being in pain!

How are you feeling now? Xx

Hi beccy im doin great thanks im 9 weeks post op back to normal now apart from swelly belly by the end of the day my tummy looks 7 mnth pregnant im mot on hrt but full on menapause 😣 my tumour was boarderline and it weighed 6 lb hope all gose well chick x

It is well known that with a laparotomy a second cyst can be missed so it could well be that is one that was hidden, possibly by the large cyst, and not a reccurrance of the original cyst.

I'm facing your scenario. I have recurring cysts every month since November and just had surgery on august 12th. They found two ovarian cysts in my Fallopian tubes and a strand pulling my ovary and tube down and stage two endometriosis. But two days ago I started having my normal monthly cyst pain it's getting worse. I was told all that will stop my cysts is getting pregnant, but I would be high risk due to history of blood clots and a blood clotting disorder. I'm just trying to find someone who will remove the ovaries so I don't go to the hospital all the time

Speak to your gynacologist and lay it on, how desperate you are etc etc. If you don't have one get your GP to make a refferal.

Hi Lynda, sorry you are in the same position, its not fun at all. I had an MRI and open surgery with my first cyst as it was so large and there was only one cyst. They've said recurrent cysts are common as they don't always get all of the cyst material in surgery as it looks the same as normal ovary.

I was tested for blood disorder called factor V leiden Just prior to my surgery,  as all the women in my family on my mother's side have it. Fortunately it seems I took my father's genes, which was a massive relief so I can only one imagine how tough it is for you coping with both.

Have the des scheduled in another scan? What type of surgery did you have? I am going in for my second round of surgery on Monday. Nerves are coming!!!

Hope the pain isnt too bad for you today!

They just did a laparascopy so it wasn't a terrible surgery for me. The bad part is I just started experiencing cyst pain two weeks after surgery and I don't want to go to the hospital anymore and pain totally sucks.

i really hope you get great results with your surgery and be careful with that disorder, my dr put me on baby aspirin daily and day of surgery injected heparin. I have the Leiden factor five as well.

On the 28 July 2015 I had a laporascopic surgery for 2 paraovarian cysts on both my ovaries. One was 14cm and the other was 8cm they were both successfully removed. 6 moths after my surgery I had an ultrasound to make sure that they havent returned. On my ultrasound it showed that I still have cysts on my ovaries. I dont know if their big or not. I have a doctors appointment on monday to find out. I want to know if these cysts dont go away and they continue to get bigger will i have to have another surgery or will soomething else happen. And what will happen if they stay the same size and dont change (get bigger or smaller) or cause any pain? I take zoely and metforming daily along wiht other medication. But isnt the zoely suppose to make sure that i dont get more cysts? Im 14 yrs old and have pcos and a lazy thyroid, and hormone imbalances. Can someone please answer.

Hi Beccy,

I read your post then saw it was over a year ago. But i wanted 2 see how you are doing.

Im in the US so i hope that's ok.

Im 54, but starting in my late twenties i experienced recurring ovarian cysts. I probably had 4 laparoscopic surgeries to drain them. This was long ago as im 54 now. Eek. wink

Eventually, because i had 4 children with the last 2 being extremely premature and told i couldnt carry a baby 2 term, i had a complete hysterectomy. That was 20 yrs ago n im sure medical technology has changed.

Im hoping this message finds you healthy and well. smile

I myself have recurring ovarian cysts. They flare up every month, typically when my period would otherwise start and cause me to have late periods. They make my menstrual cramps much worse but my Momma won't let doctors put me on hormone therapy. She thinks additional hormones are unnecessary and possibly harmful.

I have recurring overian cyst myself

I had one removed last week 10cm and I was in a lot of pain due to the fact the left cyst ruptured

My periods are the worse due to the cyst. I feel like some one stabbed me every time I’m on my period

I just got back from an ultra sound and I have another cyst. Luckily it’s only 1.5cm
