Blue Badge

I had a blue badge about 18 months ago because of difficulty walking.I had my left hip replaced in Feb this year and am due to have my other one done in Jan. I know I will have to inform the blue badge company but does anyone know if I will have to give it back. Has anyone else had to do this thanks?

What is a blue badge? If it's similar to the blue handicapped hang tag I have for our cars. Ours is just renewed every 2 or 3 years and the blue is permanent. My rheumatologist helped me with one. There is also a red one that is temporary. I live in Tennessee in the US. My answer may not be much help.

I would imagine that until you are mobile without difficulties you are within your rights to keep using it, once you are completely back on your feet then you can pass it back because you will be so happy you dont need it :-) I don't even think you need to inform them do you as you can't be mobile yet.

Good luck with next one

Thankyou can't wait to have the next one done.

Best wishes on your next surgery

I hope it all goes brilliant and you never need a blue badge again LOL keep us posted

The council ask you to return the badge if you no longer need it. It needs to be renewed every three years anyway.

Hi Jill

I had my hips replaced at the begining of the year well one in dec last year and one in feb. I then found out l had to have both knees replaced. I had my 1st in august and was asvised then to apply for a blue badge. I got assesed. In september and was awarded one for 3 years as they said because l had all 3 ops in the one year and have still to get a knee done that l was more than entitled to a blue badge. I have had to give up working full time and still am in a lot of pain from my 3 ops l don't think l will ever be normal again. I have put off getting my other knee done until l feel ready as having the 3 ops really has took it out me. I am 43 years old and never thought l would be entitled to the badge in the 1st olace even though l struggle to get around and l think l always will even with my knee hips and knee's l still am not walking normally and nor can l walk a long distance. Getting in and out my car is really hard and having the badge makes my life axlot easier. I think if it was just my hips l would be able to be a close to normal than l was before l started suffering from OA but the knee was so much harder and my surgeon said l will always feel l have had knee replacements although l havevinly had ine done l still am in pain medication and my life has changed now to the point l can't do a full time job as its to sore sitting in a seat 5 days a week l have not got the strenth or the energy l did have and don' t think l ever will now. I passed the assesment easily the lady said and out me straight in for a 3 year one and said because if my knees l would get it renewed at the end of it. She even advised me to apply for pip as l have had to reduce my hours at work because they would class me as parcially disabled even with my new joints l should be entitled to help. So l would say yes you still are entited to your blue badge.

I have had mine for a month now and its helped so.much. i have also not been able to sleep in my own bed for over a year no matter how much l try my poor husband wakes up every morning on his own as l.have to move to the couch. I think getting 1 hip reolacement gives a lot of people back there life but having both done then both knee's has took away my OA pain which was unbearble but its also left me with trouble with my walking and took away my normal working and home life and left me with very little confidence and times of being really depressed.. its affected my full life and my future.

Good luck keeping your badge

Laura
