Can somebody please help! Gall bladder removed through key hole last friday!

Hi, Im totally new to this!! In need of some advice help.I didnt eat for in hospital. I didnt eat for a week in hospital then had key whole surgery.  I tried eating a no fat yoghurt on saturday and I have had diarrhea and the most awful stomach cramps since... Its taking over my life!!! I cant eat and tho doctor has said im dehydrated... Im getting a upset stomach and its empty. The stomach cramps make me want to cry its horrendous. Thanks in advance.

Hi

when they remove your gallbladder your bile is no longer regulated it just drips continually from your liver . Some people get diarroeah others like me get wind etc... I think if you get diarroeah your bile is dripping in more than you need. And me I don't get enough so I don't digest well.

I read on here a gentleman said he had diarroeah for months after surgery then he saw a specialist who said small meals every couple do hours avoid acidic foods lots of carbs to absorb bile . And his gut settled . You just need to make sure there is always something in your tummy to absorb the bile. Yogurt I guess can curdle ... Bread, potatoes, rice, pasta all absorb .. And bananas have a constipation side effect hope that helps ... I just avoid hard to digest food red meat etc... And eat lots of fruit as I am opposite to you ... Constipated easily ... Lol

It takes a while for you to adjust to the new you, anything up to 4-5 months. dairy is not good to start with , try having some clear or nearly clear soup. if you can try to get some Complan intoi you too, it is full of vitamins.

A friendof mine said that after hving hers out all she could eat was backed beans! strange I know, when you think of what they do to you normally but she swore by them.

Hope you get well soon

Its depressing I have two toddlers and I cant even go out now and tired all the time. I didnt think things could get any worse. Due to go to portugal in 2 weeks. At the moment I cant even leave the house. Leant my lesson in primark today had the most awful cramps altho nothing came of it luckily xxx

The gut is a very unpredictable organ and needs to be got back to regular bowel movements slowly.. Drink hot peppermint tea and soft foods soups to start and introduce things back..bland things..loose stools are normal ..until peristalsis starts up properly hot water is good for this dilates the small colon and gets it moving. Drink clear water as much as you can this will hydrate you as it will go straight to the kidney's and bladder..

Complain is good if thy still do it!

Thing is im scared to eat at the moment I have lost 11 pounds in 5 days. Doctor said dont worry about eating I need to drink... But how is ot still possible to have diarrhea if theres nothing in there to cause it x

THE PAIN THE 1ST WEEK IS GAS VERY VERY PAINFUL ALSO YOUR SORE FROM THE GB BEING REMOVED YOU MUST EAT AND DRINK WATER,

THE FIRST WEEK  YOGURT GREAT BUT GIVE YOUR SELF A BREAK FROM FATTY FOOD WITH IN A MONTH YOU'LL BE GREAT

Meta,

I had the same pains after surgery and my doctor called it trapped gas. And boy that pain is the worse. But doctor said you have you have to get water, watermelons , fruit and a light laxative in you system right away, before it gets an worse you you land back in hospital again.

Hope you feel better soon

Can you nibble on crackers or toast and sip tea?  Just a few bites here and there to keep you from dehydrating.  Good luck to you.  It takes time for your body to adjust, sometimes months.

Thank you everyone. Gail why would I end up in hospital again? xx

My doctor said that just a little (poop) can pile up and then you get so constipated that they have to run a tube up nose to get to the stomach and flush things out. So that scared me so much, I was in so much pain, I. Couldn't even stand up straight . But after her saying that, I just forced watermelon  and grapes down me and drank fiber stuff because there was no way I wanted a tube up my nose and back in hospital . Also, I went on google to learn how to gently massage your lower stomach to get gas out and anything else, and that does help

Oh gosh that doesnt sound good...I seem to have stomach cramps ... mostly tho its followed by watery poo!! and im not really eating much to cause this... only yoghurt or wholemeal bread xx

I don't think dairy is good right now, Sally had some great advice.  You just don't want to get dehydrated.

will stay off dairy for ever if thats what it takes!! Surely though you cant be expected to live like this forver. I think I would have preferred to have kept it in and put up with attacks xx

I tried really hard to eat very bland, liquidy foods, for at least two weeks after my surgery.  Broth, applesauce mashed potatoes, and nothing with dairy.  I made my mashed potatoes with chicken broth.

If it continues, you can request a medicine called Questran.  In the US anyway.

The surgeon told me that if started having the post removal dump syndrome or runs, that this medicatio would help me a LOT.  I haven't had to take it yet as I'm constipated.  rolleyes

If someone had told me that life after surgery would be a constant round of stomache cramp and rushes to the loo; I would never have had the surgery. I seem to live in fear of diarea and live on anti diarea tablets. Going out to lunch or brunch inevitably means having to rush home almost as soon as I finish eating.. I am 9 months post op!
