I have been having immune issues for a lomg time. Recently I have been having severe fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, dry hair, eczema everywhere, foggy brain and im over it!
I was tested wity the conventional thyroid testing and a ton of other immune and autoimmune testjng. All came back normal. My mom has had thyroid issues since Inremember but never new what exactly it was. So I was looking at symptoms recently tryinh to pinpoint possibilities. I came across Hashimoto's disease, which I later found out is what my mother has. So I had my doctor do the thyroid antibody test for that, once again came back normal. Im at a loss..... I just want to feel like myself again. Any ideas???
What were your test results? Sometimes they come back "normal" but you still feel unwell.
My TSH was 4.0 which is normal but I could barely function...luckily my doctor agreed to raise my level of meds.
Hi Clair It certainly sounds like a thyroid problem.
Do you know which thyroid tests were carried out ?
Perhaps your thyroid function could be re tested .
Sorry liza Your posting just came in immediately after I had sent a reply to clair.
I'm fast tonight, must be my new meds lol
Im not sure exactly, I know yhe standard t3 and t4 tests have always come back normal. But I asked my doctor to do specific hashimotos testing this time, so im pretty sure it was thyroid antibodies and a couple others. I am going back tomorrow to discuss thw results but he called me back today and said they all came back negative.
I am not sure I go over all of it tomorrow with him. i know we tested the antibodies also this time since Hashimotos does not Always show up with the standard t3t4 testing. But he said they were all normal. What should I be looking for with the term "normal" vs optimal?
Sorry, I don't know much about t3 and t4 but I know that some doctors will prescribe medication if you are borderline, but some will not.
But get a printout of those results so that you can ask here tomorrow and I'm sure someone can help.
Thank you, I will discuss it with my general tomorrow and see what he says.
Hello Clair:
My name is Shelly and I am an RN in the USA. I have Hashimoto's since 1987.
I have some thoughts, first ask for an ESR test, (Erthrocyte Sedimentation rate) it can show autoimmune markers for other kinds of conditions beside Hashimoto's.
Lupus can share some thyroid symptoms such as skin problems and fatigue and weight gain. You may need to see a Rheumatologist who handles that one.
Did you have the TPOA and TGab tests? You can be good on one and bad on another so you need both to be done.
Ask for a blood cortisol test. This can show any problems with the adrenal glands Some of adrenal glands can also act like the thyroid and the adrenal glands are often overlooked. There are 2 conditions one is Cushing's and the other is Addisons. Cushing's is kind of rare, but it shares symptoms with thyroid problems like fatigue, weight gain, brain foggy.
Ask the doctor or the lab for a copy of your blood report. Get a copy and let us know what your TSH, T4 and T3 levels are. It will help see what is going on inside of you. Some places do charge for it.
Also you can have the early stages of Hashimoto's where you appear normal on paper and you should be tested again in the future. Hashimoto's can be passed on via DNA and it runs in my family. It is sneaky as it can make it appear you are well but all the time you are ill.
Keep us posted on how you do, any questions just ask,
Shelly
Ha, ha . Send some to me please.lol.
Think I am having a flair up.
Thnaks for your speedy response Clair. It sounds as though you are in the US so therefore you will automatically get more tests done than you would in the UK .
I am not an expert in these matters but I know that the thyroid hormones can fluctuate during the day according to research findings.
Shelly and Barbara know far more about the tests etc than I do.
I know that people are advised to obtain their blood results so you can compare them and also so you can take them to an endo specialist for close analysis.
Hope the above helps.. .
Thank you, I will bring this with me tomorrow and discuss it with my doc. I will also get a copy of all of my recent blood tests and message u back with it.
Thank you, it does. I will update you tomorrow afer my appt
