I have many hyperthyroid symptoms and my Mom had it. Actually, my stylist recommended I have my thyroid checked since I've been battling hair loss for a long time and now my eyebrows are disappearing (ugh!). I got tested on my own since I don't have a PC and they only do TSH anyway (usually). All test came back "normal" (in the reference range). Should I assume I don't have it and get hair plugs and bariatric surgery or are their really people that are hypothroid with "normal" test results. I am new to this and would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Hi .... my lab results have been within the normal range but have had similar symptoms for years. It took me to go private to find out I have Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Have you had your antibodies checked? Mine came back 140.3 (normal range 0-34)
I have been on levothyroxine 150 for 20 years recently increased to 175mg. The doctor is going to start me on 20mg of T3 Liothyronine and reduce T4 Levothyroxine down to 75mg as he said some patients benefit from it - god I hope so willing to try anything. Good luck let me know how you get on x
Hi, thanks for your reply. I am not sure what you mean by going private. I was thinking of finding an endocrinologist but figured, with the "normal" lab results, he/she would pat me on the head and send me on my way. No, I have not had the antibodies done (it was $81 for the thyroid panel + FT3 and FT4 ) since I am a cheapskate ! I've also found out now that the TSH is higher in the morning (mine was done at 4pm ) so I may have that redone. Do you feel better since treatment ?
Hi
I was referred to an endo on the NHS here in England but I couldn't wait months to see one so I paid to see an endo privately who someone recommended to me last Friday who diagnosed I had Hashis. He will write to my dr to start me on the T3 along side the T4 Levothyroxine. I will keep you posted but prey I feel the benefit from it as certainly don't want to keep feeling as I do.
Sorry meant to also say my bloods have been coming back normal for years but having the antibodies tested confirmed to the specialist I had Hashis .... good luck
My TSH levels have been 'normal' for 3 yrs now despite a multitude of symptoms. Currently losing clumps of eye lashes alternately from each eye. Finally got my doc to reffer me to the endo today. Been a long time.
Hi Sarah
Your story sounds very similar to mine. I hope you get sorted the endo should test your antibodies along with thyroid and other things. Good luck let me know you get on Jo x
Thanks Sarah and Joanne for your help. I am in the process of trying to find an endo who will look beyond the normal ranges and will consider my symptoms also. Is there a site to go to where I can get suggestions about such docs in my area ? I was lucky to find a good lyme doc that way for my hubby after going to numerous doctors who wouldn't help him.
Hi
