I have been fighting swollen legs and ankles for a couple of years now. I have had consultations with many doctors and tests with heart doctors and kidney specialists who all say it is not that problem. The final doctor visit told me it was all due to the vericose veins and the answer to that is compression hose which, at my age of 81 and already having some back problems, are almost impossible. I use the knee socks, not with closed toe and15-20 compression. Band at top is so tight I end up taking them off after about 7 hours and the deep, red ring stays until the next day. Any suggestions will be welcome.
Bless! I wear mine but the slip down then become uncomfortable. Might have to get measured for longer length. (thigh length) not keen but thr swelling has increased up over my original knee area.
hello Sally,
my 86 years old used to suffer from ankle oedema everyday. she can hardly walk as her feet up to her legs were swollen. i managed to help her with some chair exercises on tv.she didn't use compression stockings first of all, it would be an additional discomfort for her alreadysore swollen lower limbs.
'Best thing was, i studied and researched about ehr antihypertensive med which could be causing her oedema. I talked to her gp and suggested if we could change her antihypertensive meds which i think is a major link to her oedema.
we changed her meds, and now she rearely gets oedema.and we also stopped her diuretics. might help to ask your gp.
thanks.
Bless you for your response! I have been ranting about loss of hair with this particular hypertension med I am on. Now, I certainly will consider switching meds. Only problem there is, my current gp refuses to switch. I have asked him several times. It may be me, who switches! Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion.
