Cramps and concerns

It all started last week when I had a somewhat hard time opening orange juice cap. Then I    developed pain in the area between base of thumb and wrist. It only hurts when I flex my thumb backwards. Ever since then, I been testing my grip and finger movement to see if any weakness. I guess its fine and somehow my hands got better when I went to see a massage therapist who noticed my neck and shoulders are tight. I  also notice that I  have pain in the wrist bone. I did that test where I make a fist and bend down my fist and see if there is pain. As of right now, I can still open orange juice caps, tear sugar packs, etc.

Then I also notice that my knees, left hip, and lower back have small cramps that last for a few seconds. Then I noticed that I have twitches all over legs and arms that last for a second. I  also have it on my back when I lie down. I did have knee cramps, jerks, and twitches that were worst than this in November and I believe my poor diet caused this.

I do run intensely and my diet has improved in order to accommodate my intense regimen. However, I'm worried that I'm at risk of getting the worse thing ever (ALS) because of my regimen even though I never got a concussion. There also studies that said athletes have a high chance of getting that.

There's a chance that I  likely don't have it because my running has been going well and maybe my running would of been affected if I did have it.

Please help me see whats wrong with me.

Try increasing your water intake a glass every 2 hours and magnesium and potassium. Then go to your doctor and have labs in a few weeks if it doesn't improve. You may just have a poor diet and over working your body starving it of needed nutrients. The only test to tell you you dont have ALS is a emg of the muscles and tongue. I pray that it is just a deficiency and once you correct it you will be fine. If you are young it is rarer. If your middke aged it is still rare but be cautious and get it checked so you wont needlessly worry. Weakness is the primary symptom. As long as you dont have that don't worry. Weakness that when you can't do something rest doesn't help.

Thank you for the prayers. I do eat a banana first thing in morning almost everyday. I drink water pre and post run. I also eat protein as well, but maybe I lack some magnesium. I also worry about eating too much protein. I do admit that when I wasnt racing, the diet went bad by eating candy, this or that. I am 25 years old. Honestly, when I hear people having ALS, it feels like it’s not rare.

Also my posture is bad too. Idk if this is relevant.

My upper right chest has been twitching nonstop 😡

Update: after my run during the afternoon, the twitching stopped.

Glad to hear it stopped. Some people produce a lot of adrenaline and until it gets released it may cause symptoms. Plus I forgot to much caffeine can cause twitching.

I don't drink too much caffeine. I do know stress can cause it too.

Note that I run and lift.

You are right about stress and since you lift that is probably why you habe twitches. It is common in body builders and people who lift. Don't worry to much and just keep exercises and what you usually do. You can supplement magnesium even if your labs are normal. Or just drink Powerade or Gatorade. It has magnesium in it. Try it for a week and see if it helps.

Get some tests done blood work all won’t hurt to make sure

I've been eating nuts and I've been feeling little better. I'm not worried about twitching. I'm more worried about the right thumb and upper body strength. Sometimes I had to work a little harder to do something.

We’ll see in a week.

If you don't improve in a few weeks then find a university hospital that has well trained neuromuscular neurologist to do a emg so that you know they know what they are doing. I think you will be okay but to help you feel better knowing it is something that can be easily treated.

For sure. I had concerns like this few months ago and it turns out I had a pinched nerve in C7-C8 region. I had the EMG. However, this is different.

Good idea hun I’m having issues my self I had gbs still feel nervousness shaky lots of sand paper feeling more in my feet upper part of my leg I’m still walking slow feel safer with the walker long distance in wheel chair I don’t no I been sick 7 time winter gets worse . . Feel depressed cause of it it’s some thing u wish never to have from being paralyzed for 2 years I have numbness mainly also in those area feel when some one rubs my feet makes me feel more relaxed . Before this I was so active hope this week I can maybe go gym on Sunday try going every day for an hour . Hope they figure it out stressful I know😞

I had c4 c5 c6 disc bulge causing foraminal stenosis. All before I fell ill. I had mild case of GBS miller fisher variant. I developed muscle twitching all over for 7 months and then they slowed but never went away completely. I get a few a day now but I can live with that just not all over my body constantly. I had many emgs all were normal after the first one showed axonal issues. I was still diagnosed gbs but had spontaneous recovery. It is possible with miller fisher. I had it from flu vaccine. Most get it from the flu or gastro illness prior even a months earlier. Truth is they really dont know the assume. It was a terrible experience. Cramping is common in it too. Many people hundreds have told me they still cramp and twitch even 30 yrs later. CIDP comes on over a periid of time without anything like illness. You just start feeling weak and twitching and atrophy. The raised protein in the csf is a big sign. I hope you dont have any of these but at least these are treatable. Talk to you soon and hopefully you will feel stronger.

Yeah. I have too much to live and strive for. I just hope its just that I need to catch up on sleep, certain foods, etc. I’m sorry that you have to go through this.

Sorry that you have to go through this. I hope I feel better. I dont think it’s GBS because all I don’t have leg weakness, just few second twitches.

Your probably right you just need rest and you need something your not getting in your body. Magnesium potassium vit d or b vit. I would get more sleep try not to get anxious try some regular light exercise and water. Powerade is a good source for all of those try 2 or 3 16oz bottles a day.

I do drink water with Nunn tablets. Yeah I’ll try Powerade. I just think that drinking too much is bad for you.

You are right to.much isnt good for you. What are nunn tablets?

Did I tell you to much b6 can cause twitching. The neuromuscular neurologist told me that. I am in America where r u?
