CTS surgery post-op with 2 babies

I need carpal tunnel surgery in both hands. I also am a stay at home mom with a 1yr old and a 5mo old. Anyone have this surgery with babies? What was your recovery like? Is it even possible to take care of my babies alone after surgery? Or will I need someone here to help me? Thanks for any info smile

I had the surgery 3 weeks ago and I still struggle to do things! I couldn't open things eg bottles, lids. Couldn't put hair up or do my bra up!

Cant lift anything for 6 weeks.

dont want to put you off as I know the surgery has worked but the recovery is hard work.

Did you have kids to take care of?

You will defo need help!!! I'm exactly 1 week post op and theres no way I could of looked after a baby...I could hardly look after myself haha!!

My hair has been such a nightmare too...

10 and 5, so not babies. My 10yr old has been great.... Opening bottles for me and helping.

I only had one hand done as well, don't know how people have them both done at the same time?!

I used my straighteners for the first time yesterday .......... It was great!

Had to teach my boyfriend to put it up, didn't go well

I used mine yest for the first time too...my boyf tried bless him but.it ended up in my gettin very frustrated with him...oops

Wow this is something that doesn't seem like a big deal.. I guess it is. I asked my dr about recovery time and said I can go back to normal activities as room as the next day. I asked what about two babies?? She said I'd b fine. Moms are good at finding strength... She made it seem like no big deal. Then my husband read through post op info and we were quite surprised.

I think you learn to cope and find  ways round problems but you can't do too much too soon.

I had the open surgery I think if you have keyhole it's a quicker recovery.

To be honest the doctors don't give you much information about how you will be afterwards.

But if I were you I would have someone around at least for the first week

Hi Steph

I have had carpel tunnel release in both hands, not at the same time, I hasten to add.  I was told to keep my hand upright for 48 hours afterwards and not to get it wet.  I struggled to do almost everything for the first week and definitely could not have looked after two small children.

My hands took a long time to heal and my doctor said afterwards that I should probably have had physio.  It was a year before I could press down hard on the heel of my hand.  The second one was not so bad.

I hope you get lots of help in the early days.
