been on prozac 17 days to help with the withdrawls of effexor.also have major depression for 7 months.i just would like some relief from it all.how long does it take for the prozac to start working?
I was on fluoxetine 20MG's (prozac) (recommended dose) for 7 years for mild to moderate depression it took about 4 weeks to start kicking in at the beginning. I was fairly stable on this dose with just little blips now and then for 6 years. Just over 2 years ago the Gp increased it to 40 MG's then 60mgs (maximum dose), as I felt it was no longer having much of an effect.
He has now completely changed the medication to one for severe depression.
I suggest you give it a bit longer I was quite happy on it and I didn't have any side effects whilst taking it. Good luck xx
Hi Diane, I'd be interested to know whch medication you're now on and how you're findng it?
Hi Melissa
I was put on Prozac after coming off venalfaxine but told just to take it for 2or3 days. I took it for 3 days then stopped, that was 2 weeks ago and not feeling well at all. Got stomach upset and feel so so tired all the time and not got the motivation to do a thing. I really done know how long this takes to pass, I have been looking on the net about this but everything I read says a different thing and contradicts what it says on other websites so I'm just left in a state of confusion to be honest. I am sure though that it can only get better with time and the thing is I was on the meds for 32 years and I would think that it will take some time for my body and mind to adjust to being without the meds
i remember chatting with you.my depression is some what better.that venalfaxine will kick you butt.i know all to well of what your talking about.my depression is so bad i have to take something.i was on venalfaxine for 17 years.so it may take me awhile
what medicine is that?
I was prescribed mirtazapine 15 MG's mood improved, but due to side effects of swelling to feet and legs and muscle ache in virtually every muscle Gp stopped it after 8 weeks and now on Venlafaxine prolonged release started on 75mgs but now on150mgs. How am I feeling I very only been on it 3 weeks 2 weeks st 75 MG's and 1 week at 150 MG's. I must be honest I haven't been very good took double dose today, but I do not like Christmas so I am hoping things will improve when holiday period is over.
i hope the venlafaxine helps.i was on it 17 years.the withdrawl is killing me.just be sure to taper your dose if you have to go to something else.i know what you mean on doubling your dose.i have to sometime myself.i wish xmas would just go away to.its not my favorite either.let me know how you get.
I was prescribed Prozac once, and it made me really, really ill. I had to stop after a couple of weeks. Was then on Effexor for 9 years which suited me fine. Different anti depressants suit different people.
I find herbal tablets with passion flower, valerian and hops is helping ease symptoms now I have withdrawn completely from anti depressants. I take other supplements too. I am now not on any prescribed medication at all. Yes my body took a long time to adjust after stopping. No withdrawal symptoms as such from stopping.
I'm the same as you. Took 75mg, been on 150mg for a week, felt back to myself for 2 days after the dose increase but then went backwards again. On Monday I increase the dose to 225mg. Fingers crossed this works.
Will you please keep me informed how you go on with the 225mgs, I am beginning to wonder if the dose is right for me, after yesterday.I kept crying for no real reason, and found it a big effort to get ready for a night out, which when there I did enjoy.Fortunatly i didn't have any undue effects from doubling the dose and yes i had a drink, which is not ususal for me.
I don't see my Gp till 7 Jan because I want a true reflection of how the drug is working. I have both my boys home for Christmas so I won't be on my own during the day which may be good or it may cause increased anxiety. I can feel it a bit today, but keeping quiet.
Hope you go on OK.
Yes of course I'll let you know. I'm back to see my psychiatrist on the 5th January by which time I would have been on venlafaxine for long enough to know if it's starting to work. If not I have no idea where I go next with all this.
Have you heard of anyone taking diazepam 5mgd along with Venlafaxine, the way I'm feeling today I may need some as anxiety is really creeping in.
Yes. Back in the summer, I was on 75mg venlafaxine and on 10mg diazepam, reducing down to 0 over a few weeks. It was to help my nighttime anxiety. Didn't have any problems mixing the two. Take it if it helps you, don't suffer more than you already are x
i take diazapam as needed for severe anxiety and i am on venaflaxine
Its a long way off for me but anne was ven easy to come off
Thanks Jimmy, I hope to manage without it but I wanted to be aware in case anxiety worsens
Venlafaxine needs to be withdrawn from slowly or you will get bad withdrawals. I stopped cold turkey once, as a lot of people do, but was poorly withdrawals. It took me 10 months last year and that way I did not have withdrawals. Up to the individual whether they want to get it over quickly.
Have you decided how to do it Jimmy? Do you feel you want to be without medication now?
How are you doing Melissa? Are things easing for you now?
I need whilst I sort out my "demons" but yeah determined to come off them when I have control of the stresses I have.
