Does anxiety make it hard to have a good drink?

I'm not a heavy drinker. I would say I use to drink every weekend. A six pack. But I haven't been able to enjoy a drink without having rapid heartbeat and it gets me panicky because I think umma have a heart attack. I haven't really drank a six pack in a good while. Not even been able to drink at least three or two off a six pack. Does anyone get fast heartbeat when you have a good drink. How do you control it,? Should I just stop drinking for awhile or forever?

I used to feel happy having a drink BUT the next day I had panic attacks.

One was so bad that I decided to stop alcohol and see my doctor. She gave me Citolapram and Propanolol. That was over 16 years ago. It worked.

I would never go back to alcohol. I hate it.

Could you explain to your doctor that drink makes it worse. Some people can't take drink. I know a guy who is tipsy after two cans of lager.

Drinking alcohol every day can raise your chances of getting atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition that makes your heart beat really fast and off-rhythm.

you have not drank 2 or 3 beers from a six pack over . It doesn't make sense that that amount of alcohol can cause AFib.

This is is a puzzler. The only thing Imcan think of if ur taking any new medications and drinking a beer to two?

I'm not a big drinker at all. I used to enjoy the odd drink occasionally but like you I found certain drinks made my heart race and also made my anxiety worse.

I looked into this briefly and asked my GP about it. He said that some alcohol contains a higher level of sugar than others which can elevate the heart rate, especially if you suffer from anxiety. He also told me that some alcohol can have a direct effect on moods for some people and can increase anxiety/depression afterward.

For now I just choose to stay away from alcohol more or less completely unless I feel more normal and calmer. Even then I will only have one small drink.

Dont drink, it damages the body and the brain.  Have an occasional glass of red wine.   My generation got by on orange juice, expresso coffee and milk shakes, it did not stop has having the greatest time, dancing, travelling, socialising, adventures etc.   Think how much money you would save.

I was on top of my anxiety with limited amounts of alcohol per week and was doing well. A week ago I went on a 12 hour drinking session and I have spent the last week dwelling on things and mistakes from my past - I even cried at work and when my friend asked for my address to send a Christmas card I completely panicked. I will be more careful in future about what I drink. I went back to my doctor today and I have propranolol to steady my heart beat. Maybe don't stop all together because I get drinking is a social thing but keep it very steady as I will from now on.

Try and stop drinking altogether, did you know it ages the skin.

I agree with everyone who has advised suggested to stop drinking, it is not worth all this, I had a hot toddy the other day and am suffering terrible depression, anxiety, fast heart rate, heaviness of my legs. Never again. Sod Christmas and alcohol!! Happy Christmas though xxxx
