my IBS seems to be ruling my life! I've had cramping and pain in my left side for the last week.....today generalised abdominal pain and cramping. Like others on here my family are getting so sick of me being in pain..... they think I should be doing something about it....I'm trying but it's so hard.......it's ruining my life..... my GP is at the point of me wanting to start anti depressants but I'm reluctant..... I've cut out so much food from my diet and it still hurts......
im fed up today
This happened to me too. It was because I was constipated, though. My doc gave me something called Linzess and it cleared up. However, now I have severe diarrhea. I am waiting on a call from her to figure out our next steps.
Try psyllium husks. They are water soluble and very gentle but work for me.
Im the same nothing seems to help feeling grumpy and frustrated x
It's awful isn't it....... somedays I get really desperate......☹️
Anti depressants may help.
I'm very tempted. Normally I can manage the symptoms but I'm really struggling at the moment with the pain and discomfort. I worry myself sick it's something more serious
Your worrying might just be making the symptoms worse. Mine are triggered by stress and stress only.
Stress always makes it worse.
Hi all,
new to the forum, happy to find it. 62-yr old male. Four months ago I started to develop symtoms of what I thought was prostatitus. Many tests later, prostate was ruled out. It is something colorectal, of that I am sure. I now suspect IBS, but am not positive - colonoscopy scheduled for next week.
The symptoms include abdominal pain (crampy feeling), and the rectal and urethral passages feel tightly constricted. Stools are very narrow - but I'm not experiencing any constipation. Also, nausea is very present in the mornings and sometimes for much of the day. At any rate, this is ruining me. My quality of life is a 2 on a 10-scale. I'm actually wondering if going on is worth it. Doctors have not made a diagnosis. I've been educating myself by much reading. Hoping that the colonoscopy will shed light on it. Any thoughts very welcome. Is constipation a necessary part of IBS? Does this ring bells with anyone? Thank you so much, and happy new year to all...
Hi I've pretty much had pain on my left side which is the The duodenum precedes the jejunum and ileum and is the shortest part of the small intestine, where most chemical digestion takes place. In humans, the duodenum is a hollow jointed tube about 25–38 cm (10–15 inches) long connecting the stomach to the jejunum. I've had this for years. If there's no pain and the doctor presses on it, it is very tender. For about a month and a half I've decided to treat myself. I take a high level of probiotics and digestive enzymes. I no longer have any pain. I believe by taking these it has healed the inflamation. I also follow the lofodmap list of foods. I've cut out all dairy which i am lactoce intolerant and have also cut out all sugar. Sugar is very hard for anyone to digest.
People with IBS can either get constipation or diarrhoea/loose stools or a mixture of both. I had both for a while then it suddenly went back to normal although I still get the stomach pain which is triggered by stress. I found oranges and prune juice helped with constipation and short term use of Movicol.
Hi,
i used to have more problems with diahorrea with my IBS but now i experience constipation. It's also common to get urinary problems with IBS...... it is so debilitating and I can completely empathise with you regarding quality of life.
i hope the colonoscopy goes as well as it can.
Take care
thank you. I realise its a vicious circle and stress does make things much worse
yes I'm starting the fodmap diet.......
i ended up up at the GP today because of the pain..... feel stupid for going but sometimes you just need to be seen to be doing something about feeling so awful.
Thanks. A couple of questions for anyone; first, did it require time and tests to arrive at a definitive diagnosis for you? It's been 5 months in my case and there still is no definitive one. I am assuming that the colonoscopy will tell the tale, but I have no idea. I've been reading a lot, and it appears that these kinds of symptoms can be associated with almost any number of underlying causes. How was your ultimate diagnosis arrived at, and how long did it take?
Also, how big a part does nausea play in your troubles? I get it terribly in the mornings.
Funny and sad how many people just don't understand how totally debilitating this stuff can be. Sometimes I even think my GP believes I'm over-exaggerating the difficulty. I can't even work effectively anymore. There is no desire to do anything, because I don't feel up to doing anything. My worst fear is that this condition, whatever it may turn out to be, is chronic; something I have to 'learn to live with'. I don't want to live with this. This is proving to be the profoundest battle of my life.
I had a colonoscopy which confirmed inflammation to 30cm. I had some biopsies which proved negative for cancer. The diagnosis was UC and I was started on treatment.
It's been a struggle getting the correct level of steroids however I've just had a stay in hospital with IV steroids and it looks like this may have now got me into remission. A sigmoidoscopy had shown no inflammation which is a relief.
Don't give up.
Thanks P68. Anyone have colorectal problems as the result of a straddle injury or similar...?
Good for You!!! Trust me no doctors will help you nor will even suggest simple things like probiotics and digestive enzymes. Good Luck
