Admitted 27/4, home 29/4, today the first time back in the big wide world, so I suppose I am 10 days post op. Exciting times !
A little achey, but otherwise, the whole the seems to have gone quite smoothly. Sure I have aches and pains during the night and I do look forward to a complete nights sleep, but overall, so far so good.
I don't know if anyone else has the problem I have whereby I need to visit the toilet 3-4 times a night. Any experiences of this fellow hippies ?
Hope all is well with you.
Oh yes to the nocturnal loo visits, think the swelling caused by fluid reduces when lying down and hence the need. It will get better. At week 7 I still don't sleep well and looking forward to being allowed to lie on side- next week I hope
Hello hippie
I was exactly the same .Slightly annoying isn't it.
I'm about 17 days post op now and it has cooled down to just once per night . Thank goodness.I think it's just water retention from the op .
😊😊
I don't know how old you are, Laurence, but for people like me - over 70 - three or four times per night would seem to be about average whether or not you have had hip surgery. Rather awkward while in hospital after op. Bedpans are extremely uncomfortable at least for the female anatomy! One of the joys of getting home is access to an en-suite loo!
I am 3 weeks post op today and down from 4 times a night to 2! It does get better!!!
Thank you all for your quick replies. Its very comforting to hear of common factors. Hope we are all leaping about again soon. ( I'm 64)
All the best.
Dunno about a leap.......might manage a swift hop........I am 77!
Margaret
Hi well done! Good on you! But don't over do it! Regards Amanda
Taken it easy, voted, met three other chaps with hip replacements, and made it home. Lovely to be out in the fresh air.
A swift hop would do the job ! ☺
I am just over 3 weeks post op and only got up once last night to go to the loo, so yes it does get better. My problem is that even during the day when I do go for a wee, dont seem to have a full stream ??? takes ages to have a wee as no force behind it as it were ???? I was like this after my arthoscropy last year too, dont know if its to do with nerves being affected .... very strange and dont know if has happened to anyone else
Hope your recovery continues to go well.
Regards
Nadine
Hello Laurence, cwelcome to the world of post hippies.
Yes frequent trips to the loo especially in the night, when you are stiff and have to hobble as quick as you can to get there in time lol !
Sleeping nights will come eventually, I'm 15 weeks tomorrow and now in sleep like a log right through the night but and still a little stiff when I wake and have to go to loo.
It certainly is exciting times, I never thought anything could be so wonderful as recovery and it just gets better and better.
Hi Nadine, did you have a catheter in ? In didn't but I am having to go a lot now, at 15 weeks
(every weeks like a birthday lol !) I don't seem to have a very full stream either.
one of the worst experiences for me was about 10 days post op when the upstairs toilet blocked and overflowed and the plumber couldnt come til the next day - i was hobbling up and down the stairs during the night with great trepidation - mind you my husband felt worse as he had to clear up the bathroom floor!!!!!
Bless you Valerie. Make hippies are so lucky as they can use the beer can xx
Oops should have typed MALE hippies
So wonderful to share our stories here ---- I wish I had found this forum sooner - I would have had less worries, fear and anxieties --- my experience is similar - living alone and having to make those nocturnal trips were scary - getting in and out of bed !!! On top of that I had UTI right after I was discharged ... but it definitely gets better .... just don;t be lazy and get out of bed when you feel the urge .... good night everybody
Oh my god Valerie, that must have been awful ! Poor hubs as well 😨
