Gallbladder Surgery 4 Months Ago And Still Have Pain

Hello all,

I had gallbladder surgery 4 months ago due to acute chronic cholecystitis. The surgeon said it was really inflammed while also my stomach was inflammed (gastritis). I didnt have pain for a couple weeks after surgery and then it started comeing back slowly. Now it feels as if my gallbladder was ever removed. I am super gassy all the time. Always getting movement in my gut and i am honestly scared to eat food because it hurts so bad. Ive tried ginger tea, ive tried supplements, ive tried ox bile supplements. Ive tried pretty much everything. My GI keeps prescribing me medication that doesnt work. My primary says they cant do much sense he believes im still going through post op issues. Mind you ive had a problem with upper right pain for almost 2 years before they gave me the option to get it taken out. I got blood work done to check my liver and everything came back normal. My question is, has anyone or is anyone going through the same problem? I’ve read a couple forums of people saying they dealt with this for 8 months and it randomly subsided. I’ve read people dealt with it for 2 years and Ive read that people are still dealing with issues 5-10 years later. No Dr seems alarmed but the pain is INSANE. Thank you guys for reading and I hope I’m not alone in this.

Tyler, I am so sorry to read about the ongoing pain and issues you are experiencing. Did your surgeon perform a cholangiogram whilst performing your surgery? Has any doctor sent you for scans to check for any retained stones? I ask this because sometimes stones can be missed or slip out during the surgery. It is a long shot, but worth asking if it can be double checked. Additionally, you can also seek a second opinion from another specialist. Sadly, we sometimes need to push and be insistent as some medics can be dismissive - follow your instincts, if you feel something is not as it should be, keep pushing for answers! One thing I learned from my research pre-op and experience post op, is that not all surgeons are equal, and I am convinced that the level of skill and experience of the surgeon affects the outcomes.

It can take a little while post op for things to settle and for your digestive system to adjust, but you should not be experiencing that degree of pain. Best of luck in getting some answers and don’t be fobbed off.
