Hi
I have mutiple gallstones but have remained symptom free apart from one typical attack about 6 months ago and chronic neck and shoulder pain for which I take a very low dose of Diclofenac (3 x 50mg per week). I do however suffer from intemittent, without warning episodes of diarrhea which is very embarrassing, inconvenient and uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this prior to surgery? I've always thought it was the Diclofenac which is why I have gradually reduced the dose but cannot eliminate it completely as the shoulder pain creeps back in. My GP is convinced its my gallstones but surgery is out until I know for sure if they are causing all thses issues. My other fear is that removal of my gallbladder may make it worse.
Cheers
Hi
I take Diclofenac as well (I am waiting for my op date to come through) cannot say that it gives me diarrhea but it does give me indigestion - so I only take them when I really need to. Have you altered your diet since being diagnosed with gallstones I know that I eat a lot more fruit and veg than I used to and have also gone on wholemeal bread ect maybe that has caused the problem.
Hope this helps

Hi
I have certainly alterred the way I eat - much smaller more frequent meals, and also reduced the fat content although I find the curries and chinese meals don't bother me either. Example being the tuna pasta I had at work last Thursday; I had to go home an hour later with the runs - maybe it had mayo in it. An hour later I was as right as rain. It's just so unpredictable. I also take Omeprazole to protect my stomach. May I ask what you take Diclofenac for? I've been on it since May 2007 and all was well at first. I just do not know if the tablets are upsetting my stomach or the gallstones are. Or maybe they are causing my shoulder pain too (it's been constant for two and half years). I see my GP in April and she wants me to speak to a surgeon for an expert opinion. Good luck with your op anyway - please let us know how it goes.

Hi Di
My GP put me on Diclofenac because apparently they are anti inflammatory and I suppose if your gallbladder is inflamed they help. He originally prescribed co-codamol but they spaced me out. To be quite honest with you I don't take them very often because they give me indigestion and I find paracetamol take the pain away just as well. My GP said that you cannot take them on an empty stomach and lets face it the last thing you feel like doing is eating when you are having an attack
