Gut issues with methylprednisolone for PMR

Is anyone experiencing burning burning in their stomach?  I have to take a baby aspirin a day also so that might be the cause too or it could be the combination of the two.

I have that horrible burning also. I take a Prilosec once a day, 40mg and I take 150mg if Ranitidine twice a day. I also just started taking my prefisone at night and it is better. I guess I sleep thru the worst part. Good luck.

Gastric irritation is quite common with most corticosteroids and in combination with aspirin that is likely to be worse. You can get gastro-resistant low dose aspirin and you should always take both with food - for many people a glass of milk or a tub of yoghurt makes a big difference but others need a meal.

Is that the same as enteric coated?

Thanks.  My doctor took me off the PPI's and said to try a famotodine product and eat with crackers and, as Eileen says, yogurt.  It helps some.  Good luck.

Yes - some people use one term, others the other.

I also take omeprazole (prilosec) and ranitidine twice a day.   Even with these and taking the pred (and other meds) with food, I still have episodes of horrible burning in my stomach.    This has resulted in gastritis a couple of times.

Hi, be sure to read on your Prilosec and Ranitidine as it is NOT to be used long term. My hubby and I (I have PMR, take Prednisone and methotrexate) both were using and I read....  YIKES Dr had even told us to take. We must be aware for ourselves. But, crackers help me, or chewing a piece of spearmint gum also settles my tummy. Good luck

Thanks.

I had to stop prednisone due to burning in my stomach as i have history of ulcer.

It got better when I was taking 7 mg, but stil I was afraid of ulcer. I was always taking prednisoe with food, milk, but this did not helped me. I have a very sensitive stomach and sometimes have to quict medication because of that. I know now exist prednisone that covered with protection layer for stomach, but doctor never offered this type of prednoson to me: not my family doctor, bot reaumy.
