Help and Support for those new to PMR and/or GCA (fiftiesgir

I have started a new thread which takes over from fiftiesgirl question on the mrsk and Admin thread.

fiftiesgirl

I do not want to push the DVD that PMR&GCA UK North East Support made, but it was made with specific aims:-

a) no jargon

b) medically correct

c) patients as well as Medics

d) target audience - the person with PMR and family and friends to help then understand what is was that was happening to you, the person with PMR and/or GCA.

We all went through a pretty dreadful time when first diagnosed, as most of us had not heard of either PMR or GCA, we left, after a 15 minute consultation and diagnosis and were bewildered. And then discovering there was no known cause or cure was a big blow.

Without this site, Kate, Pam, Jayne, Wendy and Mavis would never have got together and then met other like minded people and eventually helped set up a new National Charity and then Pam, Mavis and Margaret went on to set up a registered Charity in the North East of England.

Without Awards for All and Gateshead MBC and the medical profession located in the North East we would never have been able to produce the DVD.

We would like to issue it free to everybody outside the North East but we have to charge for postage and packaging - money as usual is problematic.

People who have paid the p&p have commented on it and those comments are on the website. To date there have been no adverse comments.

It might just help you to help hubby understand.

Other people on this site have obtained the DVD and they might like to add their sixpennorth.

Yes the DVD explains everything clearly and useful for anyone who is new to PMR and their family

We are all grateful to Mrs K and all the others at PMR/GCA north east for all the work they have and do put in

Best wishes

Mrs G

Hello Mrs k and many thanks for that - I did have a 'look' about the PMR-GCA UK North East site a few nights ago but have not had the time to do it justice. Will certainly look to purchase the DVD for us both to watch.

Thank you all once again smile

Have looked on the site and cant really where you can purchase the DVD from.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

I can be a bit thick on things like this sometimes.

gilly.

I went on this morning. after posting, to the PMR-GCA UK North East site and it wasn't clear! But it is there on the left hand side with all the other information you can click on .... DVD..... downloaded the form and posted it and cheque a little while ago.

Look forward to receiving it. smile

Still looking to buy this DVD and unless I am looking in the wrong place, I still can't see where I can order it on the website stated.

The options I am seeing on the left hand side in the blue menu are just showing this:

gillybee

Are you opening up the first heading on the North East Support Group page, which is PMR-GCA UK North East Support - you will find \"DVD\" listed in 17th place down the blue worded left hand margin? Third time lucky????

MrsO

Here's a direct link for info on the DVD. Of course this post won't show up until it gets approved by the powers to be.

Hi

email me on this site, with your email address I then can send you the relevant forms by email.

I have looked at the site three times and its all there.

Or email me via the email address contained on the site headed Contact Us, which is two lines below the DVD link.

Hope this helps.

Just posted 10 off to a Consultant Rheumy.

I bought the DVD from Mrs K, and made my immediate family sit and watch it with me. (Doesnt take long).

Family understand now, when I'm having a really bad day. It has made such a difference to how they react when I need help.

I dont make a fuss, however my husband is much kinder when my pain is bad.

However at the moment, pain isnt too bad (fingers crossed).

Brenda.

gillybee - don't blame it on being blonde (me too) - blame it on PMR and the steroids.......we all do!!! Enjoy the DVD when it arrives.

Lizzie (still trying to push back the boundries of age!!)

Hello! I have been yesterday to the hospital to give blood to the \"voltures...\" 8 samples for almost every item in my body....This morning I have about 1/3 of the nasty PMR pains in my arms and hands back....so, as I could not wash or dress...I had a good rest in bed...I have found the postings about the PMR DVD, and I went to PMR&GCA UK etc, and downloaded the Form to my printer. I then could not be sure that it was £5, including posting & packing, so I telephoned. I very lovely lady, at the end of the line, was so helpful, and we had a long chat about how it feels to have PMR, when family and friends, and even doctors, know so little about it and how dreadfully ill we can feel at times ! She then told me about Vit D, and how I must insist on getting a prescription from the doctor, for 40.000 U a day ! I am been given 500 U a day !....If necessary, I shall go to Holland & Barratt to obtain them. I do want to get well enough to go on living without such horrible pains ! My husband had a bad day yesterday. He told me that watching me in pain, makes him feel helpless. He wishes he got it instead of me ! I told him that I will be quite happy if I can appoint him as my own private nurse ! And he can look after me. He said that he felt not needed and useless. I told him I need him more than ever now. He is very happy at that !

I am awaiting the results of the blood tests, and will be back here again.

I am reading all the postings, and wish everyone to go on getting better and better and if you can enjoy holidays etc. SO MUCH THE BETTER !..

Id missed you this week Sorry you arent feeling too good We all seem to have good and bad days

I think they have to test your Vit D levels until they can give you a prescription Im feeling better today had a bit of a knee problem this week after my muscle rehabilitation class !! ( Supposed to help me !!) Then yesterday I had my Nordic walking class then a lot of work with my horses so i was a bit tired last night but today I stayed in bed a bit longer and then went out to lunch with some friends so I feel much better now

Its great your husband is so supportive mine is as well and as he is always very cheerful that helps as well

Hope you feel better tomorrow

Best wishes

Mrs G

Thank you mrs G for your note. I am feeling much better and I hope to wake up tomorrow morning with less pain !.....I have sent off cheque for the PMR DVD, and I am looking forward to receive it, so that I can watch it with my husband and learn on how to cope with the \"enemy within\" ..... Very determined not to surrender......A tot of Brandy, is always handy......at soon, and take care. Granny Moss

Granny Moss

Sorry to hear about that extra pain today - probably a result of the trip to the hospital yesterday (not to mention the shock of losing all that blood  ).

Do hope tomorrow is a better day - at least you have a big blessing in that husband of your's - couldn't have got through this PMR/GCA journey without mine either. He took me to Brighton today so that I could get some sea air in the hope of it relieving the inflammatory symptoms in my glands/sinuses - we had a gorgeous meal in a wonderful Italian restaurant, walked along the beach and to the end of the pier and the sun shone on us - only downside that's left me feeling really guilty......a big piece of chocolate gateau for my pud!

Crossing fingers for a better day for you tomorrow.

MrsO

Hello Mrs O,

What a lovely day and don't feel guilty about the chocolate gateau!

I think we just have to grab these opportunities when they come, leave the dust and the diet and enjoy :D :D Life's too short .......

I went to see \"Made in Dagenham\" at our Senior Screen at the Odeon (£3 including coffee - bargain of all times). Roused all my feminist principles - it's about equal pay. Then had nice lunch out, bit weary today but I'll get going.

Have a better day Granny Moss -

And everyone, Pam
