Help me with my mental health awareness project!

Hi I am a photography student from the uk who recently has been suffering from severe health anxiety. With this I decided to do a project about the correlation between mental health and social media and the positives and negatives it brings. For example - does it glorify mental health and anxiety? or is it helping us cope?

For my project I want to have statements, poems and stories to include from people who suffer and are therfore knowledgeable. So if you have the time giving me a few words on this subject would eb great. You would all be anonymous, and providing me with anything for my project would also be giving me consent to use it in my project.

Thank you Very much

Hi I have suffered on and off for 20 years with health anxiety. But this past year as been the worst due to menapause. I am mentally and physically exhausted with it. The symptoms you exsperience feel all real, heart palps, dizziness, foggy head, tears, tiredness and the list goes on.

Don't know if this helps you .

Hi, I don't think social media glorifys mental health, but I do think that until you come on a forum like this one you don't realise just how widespread this illness is. When I was first diagnosed with depression and anxiety 32 years ago, it was a stigma, and not very much talked about,it was a very taboo subject, also there wasn't the help available then that there is now.I can even remember when I was younger that if someone had mental illness, there was a saying that"yellow van will be coming for him" and I think that was because people didn't understand mental illness and just labelled the mentally ill as mad,so in a lot of ways social media has made it easier to understand this or any other illness by being able to research on line. Hope this is of use to you☺

Hi Trina I was diagnosed with depression 20 years ago and yes your right it wasn't really talked about my Mam looked at me like muck when I got it, she said to our dr don't be stupid it's not heard of. But I must admit I had a great dr who helped me understand it and why I started with it and still to this day my other dr that took over my old one is great x

Hi Karen, It's really good that you have a good doctor, I think it makes a massive difference when you have good communication with your GP, also some people think we are weak and should be able to "pick ourselves up" but I think that we are very strong to be able to get through this illness, not once, but as many times that we relapse, we always manage to get through it 💪💪

Yer she's brilliant with my depression/anxiety and with my menapause. I think we are very strong to live with what we do live with and get throw every day. It's a struggle but we manage to it and we will continue to do it as long as it takes xx

Hello Coco,

I am suffering of bipolar disorder for almost 16 years now, i had depression and mania moods, for now im good enough, and what i can tell about social media its that when ure really down it helps you contact people that feel the same, and for a while you dont feel so alone.I dont think it makes you get actually better, but 30mins on a mental health forum , exchanging opinions gives the impression of a kind of relief, at least for me.And many times you can reconize yourself on the description of others, and understand somewhere there are people that feel exacly like you do.I dont see any negative side of mental health social media. In general, mental illness should be more present on medical field, people should learn more about it and try to understand we dont choose to feel like this, mental.illness its a serious affection that can totally change life course. Many suffering of depression have difficulties in working, and being independant, which can affect the selfesteem. I hope your project will show to the public the real face of a mental illness, even if quite difficult to show feelings, as its very different of psysical illness.I cannot stop to notice how superficial can people be regarding mental illness.I had many episodes of depression and people couldnt understand it and took me as being just lazy..anxiety, depression, agorafoby , etc do not mean laziness or lack of will, its all illnesses of the mind ans the soul, and we should all understand it and give a hand to those that lose hope. I wrote a lot, hopefully u will find a good phrase to use. Good luck with the project!xxx
