Over the last 2 months,I recently had a slew of health scares in my family and a passing of a close friend....
For the last month I have had awful discomfort that ranges from dull to sharp in my abdomen and back. It's consistent for the most part. I have also lost about 10 pounds in last month.
I have been to emergency room 3 times, doctor 5 times since then and nobody can find anything wrong. I most recently had an upper GI series X-ray and an abdominal and pelvis Ct scan with contrast. I have had full CBC's about 3 times and and abdominal ultrasound. All of them normal.
Only thing I haven't had is colonoscopy. Dr's all think it's stress and anxiety. Im having a hard time coming to grips with that. Keep thinking there is a cancer they missed!
Even on days I think I'm calm, I get the pain... i guess my question is, If someone was overly stressed anxious for a while, does it take a while for the body to relax again? Can anxiety abd stress really cause chronic consistent pain like this?
I'm so frustrated
Sorry for what you've gone through no wonder you are feeling the way you do. Yes anxiety can cause chronic pains and I believe your doctor is correct, stress and anxiety can cause all sorts of things pains including. I've had so many symptoms I've even had few ECGs even during that I had an anxiety attack because I keep thinking I'm going to have a heart attack. Have you tried any relaxing technique, yoga can help. you are experiencing the pain because being anxious can tense your muscles and makes it worse. Once you've cope with the pain you'll find it'll get better.
I'm even scared of hearing my own heart beats it's terrible. I've started to go running in my little park that is helping because it makes me believe that I'm fit and not going to keel over at anytime. If you can try to go for little walks, exercise can make you feel good and relax you swimming is another great exercise for relaxation. I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks- you are very kind to respond. Right now fear is taking over because of the pain and the fact i don't know what's causing it.
I just wish they would say I had an ulcer or something. At least then I wouldn't worry if what it could be.
I'm just having trouble grasping anxiety for pain this consistent :-(
Oh yes, anxiety can cause all of this pain. It is hard to believe it, but it is possible.
That's what everyone's telling me and starting to believe that's why nobody can find shutting wrong with me.
How do I stop the pain? Tired of taking Advil
I doubt if Advil is going to help with this.
I was prescribed gabapentin which has really helped, but you do need a prescription.
Deep breathing, meditation and therapy are a great help, too. You can find videos on youtube to help you with this.
Thanks Mac... I will follow up with my PCP on something else. Yeah Advil doesn't do much lol. Ativan helps me to relax
Mac,
I know this post was old but I'm still having these pains that move all around my chest, abdomen, flanks , back and pelvis. If this anxiety, will it ever go away? You said you had to take pain meds for yours? Is this a long term thing for you? These pains are chronic and driving me crazy.
