Had my left hip replaced in February, dislocated in May and June. June 13 had a revision where a different liner was put in to help prevent dislocation. Dislocated in September. Dr claims to be “puzzled “ but wants to go in and replace the entire socket portion of my implant. Any thoughts
Well now that may make sense if he allowed so much slop so that your muscles just could not hold the ball in place properly but that should not be IMO especially since he has already modified it.
I just wonder if the stem has sunk so that there is too much space between the top of the ball and the socket. Might be worth asking him directly about that possibility.
Have you built up your muscles and walking well without limping and with a good gait? There may be more than one factor at play here.
All the best, Richard
I am sorry to help all of this, could it be to do with the system they use, can you go elsewhere to another surgeon?
Definitely get a second opinion also look up for any warnings put out on your implant. Xx
Hey skinner , that's a lot of dislocations, I had hip replacement in January 9 this year and February 13 th , they pushed it back at the emergency room, I heard the top out it sounded like a gearshift TremendousPain was on human I was on the floor for two hours in my apartment in at 10 o'clock at night it happened, eight months post dislocation I feel like I'm in more pain nerve pain, my leg , thigh feels like it's broke , knee is very bad pain, I pray that time will be a healer, Can I ask you how your pain was when you had dislocations ???
Hi Skinner,
My heart goes out to you. I'm no doctor or engineer, but I've often wondered why they are unable to make a socket with more 'curved' edges that grips the ball more securely. I realise it would reduce the range of movement a little but that would surely be a small price to pay to reduce the chance of dislocation. I'm sure there's a perfectly valid reason and they try to make the implant as realistic as possible, but when I hear of so many cases of dislocation it makes me wonder.
I do think you need to go in and perhaps have a socket with a tighter fit. Good luck Xx
It reminds me of when I went in for my hip replacement twenty years ago. There was a man in the ward on traction who had had his hip dislocate I think nearly thirty times. Not good to hear that on the day I was waiting for surgery!
Cheers, Richard
All were painful! This last one was the most painful. Thankfully I have never fallen during my dislocations. The first to I was standing up when it happened and sitting in an office chair the third time
I I am awaiting a call from a Dr in St Louis for an appointment to get a second opinion.
Change your doctor, don't be shy get a second opinion. It's your body, it's your life.
Hey skinner, I know what you mean, I did not fall I slid off the couch when it dislocated, I found there's not much they could do once it's probably in place , i'm sure there is more we can do
just keep searching for healing try everything, I had a nerve test there is nerve damage in my back I'm not surprised had two fusions, it's a shame that a dislocated that many times , i'm sorry for you skinner , I know that one time was enough, thank God I had my cell phone , The Lord bless you my friend Mike
