How to reduce swelling

I am 8 weeks post full replacement, things are ok overall, but I still have leg swelling.
Not drastic, but its there.

Which method is the best to reduce this please?

I do the std exercises and walk a few thousand steps per day without sticks now.

Hi ric,

Time is a healer, it was twelve weeks before my swelling finally disappeared, the magic three month period. like you it was not a huge amount of swelling but, come evening you could see it had swollen up.

thanks jen. very reassuring. its the 2 steps forward 1 back that gets me.

Does this swelling add too your overall weight? I have added a couple of pound since the swelling appeared.

Also, should one drink less fluid slightly over this period of swelling?

ric,

Unless you are talking alcohol, 🍷🍷🀣 you always need to drink, keep your fluid intake up. My hip is definitely heavier than my normal hip, when I lift the leg up in Pilates, I can physically feel the difference in weight.

LOl thanks jen. I have googled it and the fluid retention does give you a weight gain for the period of the swelling. But drinking lots of water etc doesnt add to weight as it passes straight through the system.

Second hip needs replacing in the next few months, so thats stopping me upping the exercise for now.

My right hip has decided to play up, the groin pain is lasting longer but, still have to carry on. I will continue with my step aerobics, zumba and pilates. Good luck with your continued recovery. πŸ€Έβ€

And you.

Also i found many useful gentle massages that can be done to help with the swelling on UTube. By yourself or a partner.
