Hypochondria

Of course when my significant other decides to take in some wild newborn mice, I have to Google what are the dangers to it. I learn about the hantavirus and I am absolutely terrified of it. I told him to get rid of the mice and he did. I haven't been able to eat much the past two days because of it. This morning, I felt better and was able to eat. He and I don't live together, so I was more worried about him rather than me. But of course, this morning, I went into the garage to grab the cat food and I found mouse droppings everywhere. I held my breath as I grabbed the cat food (which looked fine as far as I could tell) and placed some into their bowl. I'm now too terrified to step foot into the garage, I told my parents about it too (I live with my parents). I'm now sitting in my room crying my eyes out, thinking I've contracted it somehow. I don't want to die! Can someone help me calm down...?

I know what will calm you

Is a mouse trap with some cheese on

tgis sounds like you have germ phobia, which can be related to OCD. This is what I was old about it: your reaction has no scientific backing and nor does you solution (cleaning mercilessly.)

I think the same could be applied here. I have nice droppings in my shed...if you keep cat food, bird food, seeds in easy access, they will find it and eat.

I do not fear some dreaded disease, but I now keep things out of their reach and wash my hands if I touch what they have touched.

CBT is a great way to combat OCD as is therapy.

We live in the country and we get a multitude of wildlife. Rats, mice, moles foxes and badgers, all drop their pile either in the garden, in cupboards, not the fox or badger.

Rats our our problem, they come in from the fields, mice arrive in the loft space, they die, then smell, the rats are the same when they get their cheeks filled with rat and mouse poisen, we have to get rid of them and pick up their remains if we can find them.

All I am trying to explain is as long as you wash your hands and also wear plastic glove all will prove not to be a problem

There is nothing to worry about.

It is highly unlikely that you have contracted anything from the mice. They don't carry airborn diseases. Its clear though that you are suffering from health anxiety to some degree, please consider getting help for that as I know first hand how much it can consume you. You are not going to die because of mice.
