I recently went on levo for hashimotos, as my tsh levels were 20. It gave me really bad side effects and i stopped taking them two days ago. When on the meds my stomach has been quite bloated and since coming off the meds this bloating has gotten incredibly worser. It becomes extreme at night to where i look 5 months pregnant. Im on a gluten free and dairy free diet so know it cant be something im eating as ive been eating very clean.
I had tests done to rule out infection and inflammation in the stomach and all have come back normal.
I was wondering can levo cause extreme bloating? Im becoming very fed up with the fullness in my stomach and just want it to go away.
How long were you on the Levo before the bloating started? Just wondering cause hypothyroid can make you bloated. What other side effects did it give you? I am sorry that you are having to go through that! It can be very uncomfortable. Have you had another thyroid test done to see where you are at now? I had all kinds of side effects. It could be a filler in the medication you took that was causing a problem. Maybe you could try a different brand and you wont have that happen. I had to change meds to tirosint it is hypoallergenic cause I am sensitive to some of the fillers and it made me feel like I was have an allergy response internally (Hard to explain that). I just felt horrible till I got on this medication and still have my ups and downs but definitely better then before!
I have Hashimotos was diagnosed 30 years ago . Had my blood results yesterday from recent blood test and my TSH is at 1.05 . Your level is a lot higher than that so you really do need the medication . My advice to you would be research other alternatives and go back to your GP as being on nothing could make you feel awful .
Hi Hayley I feel exactly what you’re going through. I’m newly diagnosed & been on Levo for almost 3 months. Bloating has already been one of my symptoms w/hypo for awhile now bcuz am assuming have been hypo for years. But...the bloating has def become worse , much more severe since starting the meds. Horrible. and I’ve geen gluten-free for the last couple of weeks as well (well with a setback ...am still learning & trying) will be asking my dr about trying something different I can’t stand this. Will keep you posted. I did hear that some brands of Levo contain lactose btw...was surprised at that.
