I had chronic sinusitis for about 3 mounth now. It started with severe pain behind the eyes and exterimly dry eyes. I also had swollen eye lids. After a month of puting up with that, I was put on amoxcicilan. That didn't work. The next antibiotic was biaxan. No luck with that. Now i have pain in the ears, in the forehead, and pain above the eye - not to mention the sinus headaches. Now I am developing severe depression because of it. Has anyone else felt like this? What do you think?

I've had my sinusitis since the middle of January and have had 2 courses of antibiotic, some antihistermine tablets and am trying steam inhalation at the moment.

Nothing seems to work and, if anything the headaches are getting worse - hard to say as it varies so much from day to day and even hour to hour. In my case there is also pain behind the left eye.

Frankly it's driving me mad....I'm off work and getting very down about it. I also seem to be permanently tired which doesnt seem to help.

Have you thought of trying a Tens machine for the pain, I've just got one for my Husband and it seems to be providing some respite

Hi there,

have you tried reflexology is is really helpful for sinus problems

Hi,

I also suffer from intermittant sinus problems (sore eyes, ears, head, face, etc.) and the symptoms can last many weeks. I only found your question because I am suffering at the moment. Different medications from my GP don't help and an investigation from an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist only proved I had narrow nasal channels and thicker than normal mucus.

Hopefull your problem has settled down by now but if not I find it helpful if I cut out bananas and dairy foods (milk, cheese, butter, ice cream, yoghurt etc) completely during an attack and have minimal quanities at other times. Both are mucus forming. Carbohydrates and starchy foods can also exacerbate the problem, but leaving those off is difficult as you've got to eat something! Try using a salt water nasal spray (Sterimar from the chemist) and steam inhalation. Also try and relax as stress (like getting totally fed with your sinuses) doesn't help.

Good luck,

Carly

Hi there all

I have had sinus problems for months also along with dry eyes and severe depressing headaches even as soon as I wake up with so much congestion!!!! :cross: I went to see the practice nurse at our surgery as I explained I had been on anti-biotics and they didn't work she suggested steam therapy as Carly has said, :towel: but to be honest I haven't tried it as I cant see it getting rid of this complaint totally, my sister had her gromits and adenoids taken out and I think she hasn't suffered since!!!!

Kind Regards

SES

Hi,

I also have severe sinus problems, I am having an attack at the moment

it has been going on for six week, I have had antibiotics, sterimer spray, but the thing that gives me the most relief is Menthol Crytsals used as an inhalent, you can buy them at boots and most chemists.

Hope this helps yu as much as it has helped me. I hope the medical profession will find something to help relieve this debilitating condition. Good Luck.

I have had a sinus problem for years. The GP didnt help by making me feel a nuisance so I didnt go back for more antibiotics.I find Olbas Oil or Superdrugs own inhalant useful when rubbed on my head & glands. The sinuses affescted are not the usual ones but the hard to reach ethmoid and sphenoid.I have a bout 1 good day every week I suppose.I take an antidepressant which makes it slightly better to cope with because I felt almost suicidal I was so depressed with it.

I take too many paracetamol and I use decongestants. The steroid nasal spray helps a bit.Recently a consultant gave me Betnosol nasal drops, tip ur head right back and that helped.I now need to see GP (grrrr) to ask if I can have some more.

I dont think they realise how awful it is

Hello. Can I ask if you are better now? I have exactly same. I hope you recovered.

Yes, it would be nice to know how everyone is doing. I've been living with chronic sinusitis for years. I'm in the U.S.. I have had endoscopic sinus surgery, turbinate reduction, and allergy injections. My pain is the same as everyone above. Pain behind the eyes, in the ears, and headaches. My vision also blurrs when things are very bad. The ENT doctor uses the scope when I complain, and says that my sinuses look great! On the diagnosis slip, he always marks, "chronic sinusitis". So, I never have acute sinusitis that requires an antibiotic, but I just have something that is just going to destroy my quality of life. I work as a dental hygienist, but I don't know how much longer I can continue. It also affects my work. Maybe I'll try antidepressants to deal with that aspect. I've tried all of the voodoo medicine, as well as nasal sprays, irrigation, steam, etc. I'm at a loss. If anyone has come up with any breakthroughs, please post! Good luck to us all.

I have suffered with this sinusitis for the last ten years, I believe/am certain that it is caused by bacterial infection located deep within hard to reach, possibly mucus compacted sinus cavities and or or bone in the sinus area. My doctors will not entertain this idea even though they have never tested for it and will not test for it, they have refused! The logical start would be to take a culture of the yellow and green mucus which troubles me 24/7 and is plentiful upon waking everymorning and at various times throughout the day. I believe my argument that it is bacterial in nature is in part supported by the fact that before the condition became chronic 8 years ago I had several episodes of acute bronchitis/sinusitis which were totally and completely cleared up by amoxicillin. It become chronic when it came back one day and I went to my doctors for amoxicillin explaining that was what sorted it and was refused any more antibiotics. I returned almost weekly and was refused any treatment for 5 months! After which time I was eventually given amoxicillin by which time didn't work! Anyway I believe that bacterial infection is still in there but more difficult to treat. I feel I need to see a specialist who specialises in difficult to treat bacterial infections. Getting anywhere with this is proving imposible and I am virtually suicidal over it. Not that I want to be but I am forced, the pain and disgustingness of this condition needing 24/7 attention is ruining my life and no-one will listen or help.

Try doxycycline it's the only

Thing that ever worked for my son like a month supply .amox Bactrim leviquin did nothing also took 2 aleves twice a day helped with the headaches. Take all with food .make sure your not vit d defiec slow down on dairy

Try an mri of your head if u complain about headaches waking u up at least twice a night insurance should pay for it then you get a great multi level view of your sinus cavity better than a cat scan . Try doxycycline for long term that really helped my son has a lot of the same complaints as you good luck

Try azithromycin 250mg 5 days on 5 days off 5 days back on again it's the only thing that worked for my 15 year

Old son

I have the same thing, How are you? ??

Hi,

I believe I may have chronic sinusitus.

For me I feel this very terrible sensation across my face/eyes. I never can figure out how exactly to describe it so others will understand - the closest I can come up with is a feeling of "pressure".

But along with that I just feel absolutely miserable! I just want to go hide in my bed and do nothing. Which is terrible because I would like to be physically active - it makes excercise or any activity well - miserable!

I would like to pass along a tip for you all to consider. Is it possible that your sinusitis is being caused by anxiety, stress, or tension? I have read that these can trigger inflamation in the sinuses and lead to sinusitus. This may explain why antibiotics do not work. Also, why cutting out "allergy foods" also does not work.

After learning about this possibility, I realized that I do infact hold a lot of tension in my head/face. Now - to figure out how to get rid of that and hopefully find some relief!

Best to all of you!

Hi my sons trying the primrose. Tablets someone recommended he's also on levaquin750

For about 2 more weeks then I think the dr will send us to get that balloon in your cheeks to expand your sinuses . Severe headaches .

Maybe stress has a lot to do with it school tryout out for sports the weather here has been crazy 50 f for a few days inches of rain then 15 f and 16 inches of snow imo than can't be good .barametric pressure . I don't know what else to do for him .i hate to see

Yes, Azithromycin (zithromax) is a very good antibiotic for getting rid of sinusitis. It's what always works for me too.
