6 weeks post robotic prostatectomy and there is still enough leakage that I have to wear diapers. I was hoping I'd use a pad by now. Any advice/thoughts/personal experience appreciated. Thanks
Jerald,
10 weeks post RP (surgery on November 2) and also wearing 1 pull up and 1 pad per day. In the last 2 weeks, I made most of my progress. Now mostly small unpredictable shirts, less than 40 ml per day. I weigh my pull up and pad before and after use.
Be patient, you are on the schedule.
As for ED, I still do not feel anything in that area, not even touch from my wife. Not feeling anything.
Did you have any progress in that area?
MK
Hi Guys, my husband is 9 weeks post Robotic prostatectomy. He never wore pull ups, coped with pads. Was dry at night around 2 weeks, has stress incontinence but only use's 1 pad a day, surgeon said he is doing very well for this stage, he did not have any symptoms before but if you did have then that could be why it has taken longer. Remember you are in the early stages of recovery. Surgeon told hubby he will probably be able to go without a pad in 3/4 months if he keeps doing his exercises. MK51151 as to ED, again did you have problems before? Hubby didnt but since op, there is a little life but not enough for sex. He use's the pump but doesnt like the ring. Was on viagra once a week, but had to stop due to blood pressure problems, once thats sorted will go on a different type of tablet. Surgeon said could take up to 12 months for normal service to be resumed! He had unilateral spare saving only. Good news is his cancer was all contained in the prostae and his PSA is undetectable, that is the important thing Men, the other stuf will work out in time espeically if you ahve a supportive partner. Good luck xx
I am 51 and did not have any problems with achieving and retaining erection. Sex life was excellent, never used any drugs for that. I am very active and in great shape and not overweight. Before surgery everything worked to the perfection.
Now, after RP I do not even feel I have a penis.
Started taking 5 mg Cialis daily 10 days ago. No action and no signs of life. Did not experience orgasm after RP and how would it be even possible with penis that is totaly withdrawn into my body.
I am lucky to have very supportive wife who participate and is very patient with all what is going on.
To be honest, I am totaly disappointed and I think I have chosen worst possible modality of treatment. I always put quality of life first over longevity. Now, too late. Have to live with something that is not acceptable to me.
I can understand the quality of life choice...to a point. Life is precious. At 51, you have 30+ years. Do you have your incontinence under control?
I saw this on the medscape site...You might want to tick these potential solutions off as "tried this". Maybe one of them will be successful?
Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction and Penile Rehabilitation after Prostatectomy
The goal of erectile dysfunction treatment after radical prostatectomy is an erection sufficient for sexual relations. There are five well-established treatment options for erectile dysfunction, and several of these treatment options have also been utilized for penile rehabilitation in men after prostatectomy. The first option includes all oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors. The second option is non-invasive and involves venous occlusive devices to retain blood in the penis during intercourse. This option includes the venous constriction loop (such as the Enhance Magna® loop or Actis® loop) and the vacuum constriction device. The third option is the urethral suppository alprostadil (Muse® (Vivus, Inc., Mountain View, CA). The fourth option involves penile injections. The fifth and final option is a penile implant.

Keep taking Cialis 5mg daily
Try self stimulation to achieve orgasm. I was told this is important.
Make a note whether you achieve erections if at all and their quality
note if you reach orgasm
I liked for three months and then stopped wearing diapers and pads.
aftee three months I am pad free and feel great.
but every so often I leak a little which I think maybe the best I can hope for.
Please don't assume all leakage is cured after six weeks. Many men take 12 months for this to fix itself but most men take between 3-9 months
Good luck.
"Liked" should read "leaked", sorry
Regarding the need for diapers instead of pullups, could a different style or size of briefs be part of the solution? What feels like a nice fitting brief when you put them on can be saggy when you take them off. Tight fitting good quality briefs hold the pad in place, and if the pad doesn't move about they do hold a lot of fluid.
I recall being told to wear anything but boxers when wearing pass. Boxers do not hold pads in place. Y fronts and similar keep pads in place.
As to diapers...I recommend " Depend" which some call diapers but are really disposable underwear with a sewn in pad.
Hi i am in the same situation. Im 65 years old and 6 weeks on i still have a lot of leakage. Is there anything i can do to speed up recovery
4 weeks post rp--50% of nerves saved--doing as well as expected-no pain, good bowell movements, urinating fine but still have minor leakage when I tip forward ,sit down or move awarkwardly. Using depend diapers as they seem to me a little more lightweight and I found the pads to bulky--I only need one a day so cant complain. My issue is willie seems to be dead and shorter-its sittting funny on top of my ball sack and good porn has not even moved it
Hey paul84838, I am almost 3 weeks post rp, Not sure what % of nerves were save. Penis looked pretty lifeless for a while. I started taking a 20mg a day generic viagra. Watched a little porn and tried a little masturbating. Saw a little life doing that, even almost to a tiny orgasm (but not quite) I think I will keep on the pills for now and maybe try again in a few days. a glimmer of sensation though small.
thanks larry--likewise,i start my Viagra tomorrow--hoping for the best . Last week I masturbated ,never go tanywhere near hard but climaxed with what I can only guess was urine--the climax itself wasn't bad,but how strange things have become.
How are you doing? Has leakage tapered off? I'm three months after prostatectomy and still have some leakage, but not too much. I hope it continues to improve and I wish the same for you. It just takes time and patience... Best wishes.
Did you do any kegel exercises? I did not and my post-op leaking came and went.
It is now over a year since my op and last week I started doing kegel exercises
and I leak 80% less now than in the week before I started the kegels. Of course you need a good physio. My first physio was lousy so I turned my back on such exercise. My new physio is great.
I did not start the kegel exercises until about 4 weeks post op. I believe that my leakage started to improve about a week after starting the exercises. I am 8 1/2 weeks post op and I am only leaking periodically throughout the day in very small amounts. Starting to substitute pads for diapers. Unfortunately pads don't work well with boxers, so I had to buy some tightie wihitie briefs.
Don't make the mistake of drinking less in order to leak less.
That will only rib your bladder of liquids.
