Left did back and chest spasms for roughly 3 and a half hours

I am a relatively healthy 20 year old man. I have been to the dpctor many times and told i have no heart issues. I have GAD and acid reflux. My anxiety attacks manifest physically most times I have them. So pretty much I've been having anxiety all night because at about 1:30 am est the muscles around my left shoulder blade started, as best as I can describe it, spasming. Ive also got pretty exrreme indegestion right now. The sapsms have moved to my left breast. They arent painful just frightening. Should i call 911? I tried sitting up a chair. It helps substantially but not completely. If I lay on my right side with my left arm behind me the spasms stop completely. I've never experienced this in my life please help me sad sad sad

I have never touched a cigarette and I don't drink. My only risk for heart issues is high bp. It has been under control for 2 years now. Am I just making these spasms up in my head? I feel as though I am. I just need someone to talk to sad anyone. Please.

Trevor

If you are having problems when in bed, regards shoulder could it be caused by your pillows. If you are not supporting your neck/spine that may cause you pain. You may need a replacement pillow.

Memory support pillows do seem to work for some.

Depending on how old your bed is if it is over twelve years or so the mattress will not be giving you the recommended support.

When you sit on a chair or sofa etc, the back will support the shoulder, neck and spine.

Remember how or where you sit and if the furniture is old it may need to be replaced. If the bed is old that may need to also be replaced. You need to understand how long you spend in bed, A good bed is a real must have

As borderriever has said look at your bed and pillow(s), etc , it could be something as simple as all

that. Spasms normally aren't felt during a anxiety/panic attack, it can cause indigestion yes.

Just out of curiosity does it hurt to swallow when you have the reflux, has any thing been mentioned to you about esophageal spasms ? . Now I know you said you have had your heart checked out, naturally this is common for panic/anxiety sufferers. Theses spasm pains you feel around your left breast, can they get painful, do you get short of breath, do you get angina like symptoms ?  The reason I also ask this is because young healthy men and women suffer from a condition called coronary artery spasms, otherwise known as prinzmetal angina, this is a very hard condition to diagnose and in my opinion doctors do not read enough about this condition, well where I'm from anyways.

Perhaps it's just your acid reflux acting up, does any kind of reflux medication help ? like over the counter stuff like Gaviscon ? If you end up getting chest pain during this then yes call for ambulance, if not follow up with your doctor as I think he/she should be doing more for you, have you had an endoscopy or a manometry procedure done to investigate your reflux ?

As a sufferer of panic/anxiety for nearly 30 years, the one thing I have learnt is that anxiety is terribly, terribly uncomfortable but it never causes pain. I found that out, I thought I was having a panic attack around 6 years ago, I just thought it was a new symptom throwing a bit of pain off, I just didn't feel myself as you do with panic/anxiety with a bit of pain thrown in, how wrong was I and the doctors, I had actually had a heart attack and spent a week in hospital.

I don't know why my last post needs to be moderated, to cut it short in what I had asked you.

I tend to agree with borderriever, nice easy thing to start looking at various things.

Has anything been suggested to you about esophageal spasms ?

Healthy men and women can get a condition called coronary artery spasms, otherwise known as prinzmetal angina, do you ever get chest pains at all when these attacks occur or short of breath ?

Have you had any procedures done like an endoscopy or a manometry to see what could be causing your reflux ? does reflux medication help at all ?

I have suffered from panic/anxiety coming up to 30 years, going back around 6 years ago, I wasn't feeling like myself this particular day, as you don't with anxiety, for some reason I experienced a small amount of pain, something I thought unusual for anxiety, as panic/anxiety is extremely uncomfortable, it never causes pain, that particular day I called for an ambulance due to the chest pain, we all agreed it was due to an anxiety attack, how wrong were we all, I had actually suffered from a heart attack, it was picked up in the troponin blood test.

Perhaps follow up with your doctor and get to the bottom of your reflux instead of just fobbing things off as anxiety, I learnt the hard way, far to easy to fob things off as anxiety as to just do a few easy tests if they suspect something.

It is important you learn how to cope with any health Anxiety can have.

We all need to be careful when it comes down to test performed, As you progress down that pathway the risks become more concerning and generally Anxiety lives on the thoughts of the test has missed a problem so you then demand more and more, what becomes experimentation. Tests should only be done when there is a good reason to do them. As we get older, more tests and the patient needs to jump a great deal higher to get a result.

Look for the simple problem before going for the complex, your GP will give support and understands tests are not sweets or an end to itself. Look around and ask yourself what reasons, or situations are causing you problems, remember if it is not broke try not to fix it

BOB

Hi bob... I really like your comment and has spoke to me... I have suffered for years with health anxiety but... Recently have accepted it... And Im feeling like a ginnie pig... Ive gotten soo many test Ive demanded... Just cuz I thought they missed something! I think its taking a toll on my body

Hey bob, thanks for the reply. I think you're right about the bed. I was having a massive panic attack as I was writing this today, so my mind was telling me that I was having a heart attack. From my understanding, my left back spasming wouldn't be related to the heart. It's likely that I was laying a certain way for too long and compressed a nerve. Thinking I'll call my GO tomorrow or the next day if it isn't much better.

Thanks again,

Trevor

Hey, thanks for the reply. I believe bob was correct in that it is nerve or muscle related. I believe I was laying in a certain way too long and compressed a nerve. Or i believe it could somehow be some sort of indegestion. Of course I was having an extreme panic attack last night and my mind immediately went down heart attack road. From my understanding, back spasms wouldn't have anything to do with the heart. Especially not in the middle of my back. I can put my hand on my back as it's happening and physically feel my back muscles moving so I don't think it's an artery. I really appreciate that you took the time to write me.

Thanks and well wishes

Trevor

Glad to hear you're getting on top of it smile

As bob has said always look for simple things first.

From your description I would of assumed your GP would have done some tests as to why your reflux/indigestion is troublesome. I only made those 2 suggestions as the 2 feel the same way, unfortunately, and I know this from experience, you can feel pain in the back from your heart.
