My anxiety is taking over my life and I don't know what to do?

I think we all just have to learn to cope dont we lol poor buggers!! think of the positives. after my mum being ill in the night on sunday i have been extremely on edge. its been 48 hours since she was ill and all of us seem fine so fingers crossed weve missed out lol but this triggers me to feel unwell and i can never sit still. music is a great help i find, discraction is the best way as you have no time to think about how your feeling. mind you my jobs so boring i have all day to think.

I used to suffer from panic attacks. 

I decided I didn't want to take medication if I could avoid it.  So I did loads of research and finally came across Emotional Freedom technique or EFT.  I have not had a panic attack for a few years now and if I feel a bit anxious about something (there's always something isn't there?) - I just use the technique for a few minutes and it calms me right down.

There's loads of videos for EFT on Youtube if you're willing to give it a try!

hi im new on this but im 23 now but it all started at age 12 on wards i have never felt normal i take 40 mg 3 times a day but i still get palpations i get so fustrated bout it i dont even no why i get them i have genralised anxitey and depresion mild bi polor and bordaline personalty disorder a hate that im not normal i no its mad but your not alone i have ceen cbt and other ppl and im same works for few months then boom am mentally ill again

We do hAha! You just have to think what's the worst that could happen. Yeah be sick or pass out what ever your feeling like and then you feel better but it's just that initial feeling which is scary and again the what ifs! Music is great and also yoga! It relaxes you and your mind. How have you been feeling the past couple of days ?

Hi Danny! It's strange how little things can start a long battle of anxiety. Mine just general will come and go or if something big is coming up like a holiday I tend to worry and this is when it starts again. Like Christmas I was all excited and then Christmas Day came and I had a complete breakdown when opening presents so strange!

Hi misunderstood, palpitations are a feeling. When I get the flutters as I call them I go to the Gym for a good work out and this gets rid of the fluttering feeling and makes me feel a lot more relaxed! I tend to go to the gym at night as this then relaxes me and I have a brilliant night sleep. I just wish there was a switch which turns anxiety off this would make life am much easier but hey all the crazy people are the best ha

yeh everyone always says if your ill your ill its like nooooooo if im ill i will cry haha! Ive felt ok its my time of the month so that always makes me dodgy. ive felt strangley great today lol i always get twitchy towards the end of the day tho like i know its time to go home so i watch the clock. im going to the gym tonight to do a class with my friend which im scared about but once ive done it i feel so much better its just the thought and the what ifs about going!! Its been over 72 hours since my mum was ill and so far eveyone is ok so surely im ok right lol!? how have you felt?

so weird i couldnt eat my christmas dinner... i was soooooo excited for xmas and when they day came i felt drained and everyone there and this big roast i just couldnt eat it and xmas day in the night i felt as though i was gonna be sick sad (that may have been the nibbles tho haha) its definatley big occasions that stress us out!

Yes - I used the technique to overcome my panic attacks.  And now if or when I feel anxious - let's face it things happen which make us anxious - I just use the technique for a few minutes and it helps me to calm down and relax.

You know what it actually really helped relax me. I will probably look like a weirdo tapping myself when I am on am gojng on holiday etc but if it works! That's brilliant that is has worked for you.

How did you class go? I love going to the gym and classes make me feel great! Even though I usually feel a bit shaky afterwards and that freaks me out ha I just have to tell myself that I have worked so hard! I'm sure you will be fine it could of been food which caused it! When I know someone is ill at work I freak and disinfect everything ha! I felt pretty good actually felt anxious this morning so I tried the EFT technique which Barbara in this thread said about and it actually calms you. But weird tapping yourself but willing to try anything. Have you tried it?

Much but this year I just wanted it to be over! It very overwhelming in think! I tried to get drunk but I even don't like drinking that much because of the minging hungover feeling the next day. It's made me anxious for Christmas this year now cause I felt so crappy this year! See worrying 11 months ahead ha

we didnt do the class as we found out it was weight lifting ha so we just did the gym. i had gym and aqua arobics which im looking forwards to. im feeling better today, when im due on i always get a bit more anxious then usual as everything is hightened. I havnt tried EFT so will look it up. yeh i disinfect everything normally anyway, the skin on my hands are like an old ladys in the winter as i wash my hand soooooo much haha. I would be fine if i had a more challenging job etc so im looking for a new job but its easier said than done sad its soooooo dull in here so it makes the working day a little harder. are you from plymouth? job oppertunities arent so great here lol. I havnt even thought about xmas with everything ive got going on before that lol, i shouldhave either bought my house by then or in the process which is a little scary haha but exciting at the same time. this is why i must deal with my anxiety so i can enjoy all the good things to come!

Oh know that's annoying. Oh that's good it makes you focus when you go to the gym and releases the endorphins ! I know it is hard looking for a new job now a days. Try that eft when you are quiet it may help. No I am from Peterborough which is near Cambridge. Oh that is really exciting. So much to look forward to. My aim is to kick anxiety a butt before my partner gets back from work which I have another 3 months to do that and hopefully be normal ha!

yeh i expect you will be fine by then if you keep trying! i have 3 months to kick it too for my hols so we will have to let eachother no how we get on lol. hopefully we will be normall instead of insane haha! I will definaltey try the etf it sounds interesting! 

Haha yes we will any tips or hints we must share with each other! That is my aim to feel normal haha! It is different but hopefully will work. Feeling very anxious today day off and my mind just keeps over thinking ahhh

Oh no are you? I get like that when im home sometimes and think why am i anxious? At least im not at work lol. Try do something productive with your days off or just really chill out!

Yeah exactly! I have been out for lunch now got my niece but still feel a bit anxious thinking about things!

I'm so pleased for you - It just plain works does n't it?

I wouldn't worry too much about what people think - although I would always just find a loo or a quiet corner to tap.

Also if you're out and about and can't get to a loo - you could always just tap on the karate chop point - because no-one would notice that!  And that would help too!

Remember the secret is to keep tapping on all of your anxious thoughts - at least if they're bothering you!

You'll be amazed at the results you'll get if you keep it up!
