So for the last week and a half about 3 times it has happened and what it is is when I go to sleep my left leg around my calf has a dull ache and last night was the worst.....I couldn't sleep and the only thing that would help it was walking or moving my leg......it felt like my muscles were twitching around my knee.....finally I took ibuprofen and fell asleep.
.any help would be great.
I usually take a load of pain relief to stop mine. It drives me absolutely crazy!! When i get it, its in both legs. I start stretching my toes forward and down first and I banf my feet together and I end up thrashing them around my bed in frustration. I have a bottle of oramorph next to my bed so I take that. Luckily I havent had it for about a month now but it is infuriating!! I think having a walk around is a good idea, but I have no idea how to stop it starting in the first place, sorry! If I find anything I will let you know.
Is what I'm describing sound like RLS?
Just had a little check. Apparently caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes make it worse. I rarely drink caffeine or alcohol, but I do smoke, not many but still. Gonna stop very soon! Deficiiencies in iron, magnesium, vitamin B, folic acid can cause it. I am now taking B6 so maybe that is why I havrnt had it in a while and apparently I am no longer anaemic, as I was, so that would be worth checking out. Also daily stretching is recommended x
It is difficult to say. I get it in both legs, so not sure if it is just one it could be something else. Are you actually asleep when it starts, as mine prevents me from sleeping. If not, and its just one leg waking you up with a dull ache, I would be inclined to see a doc asap, you have to be careful its not thrombosis. Dont leave it. With restless leg syndrome you cant keep still. I literally thrash mine about and usually end up getting up. I have theashed for hours sometimes. I would see someone asap and if it gets worse and especially if it becomes sharp get to a and e!
my husband had something very similar to what you described, and he was sent to a specialist, and it turned out to be a spinal disc, so you may want to have further examinations for it.....and it would probably prove to NOT BE PMR
For instance I can feel a little acheness during the day it just seems like at night when I'm not on my feet is when it kicks in
If you dont feel you have to move them, thrash etc, it is unlikely restless legs so I would ask your gp
Mine isnt a disc, but I am not sure whether your message was for me or aromes?
I only move them to stop the throbbing.....walking works the best
Not sure whether this will help or not but here goes. As well as PMR I also have spinal stenosis for which I was prescribed Tramodol to help with the pain. The thing is that, if I take these in the mid evening I find it stops the leg twitching and jumping. It was such a relief as some nights I truly felt like I was going insane. I can really relate to shazzywazzywoo with the toe stretching. Trouble is that my toes and feet then feel like they want to attach themselves to my knees! Horrid. I have suffered from restless leg syndrome for years and this is very different. However try explaining that to the doctors! You just get the look. You know the one: head slightly to one side, 'sympathetic' smile, gentle nodding motion, an mmmm ....but no reply! Anyway, just thought I would sympathise and wish you luck.
