On mirtazapine age 17, feeling the side effects.

Hi,

I have felt depressed for long periods for a few years ago and have had panic attacks coupled with anxiety since i was very young. I recently got sent by my GP to a shrink who gave my mirtazipine which i started taking 4 days ago.

I seem to be getting the same side effects as alot of others on this site, feeling very tired (not like me as i have not slept for a week a few times before), being hungry all the time (also not like me), very irritable, feeling spaced out and a little disconected, unreal...

just wanted to see f there were any other young people who were also on this med or if anyone could give me and accurate description of what i could expect.

Any help, advice, or comments would be much appreciated.

Rain Dog,

I have been taking Mirtazapine for about 6 months and if u give it some time it will work. i also suffered from really deep dark depression and panic/anxiety attacks. After a while I started to feel a whole lot better. The tiredness will fade and you will go back to a normal sleep pattern - I get about 8hrs sleep per night.

The increased appetite is something you will have to accept.

My hunger was amazing - all I thought about was food - I even dreamt about it !!

I put on some weight at first but because I was feeling better I started training at the gym and swimmming and they helped.

These excercises also help the symptons of depression, The naturally help the Brain produce Seratonin

Stick in my friend and remember that YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Heya hun, im 16 and have been on 15mg mirtazapine since september. i get the tiredness & increased appetite aswell, but after a couple of weeks they should wear down. so just give it time.

if you do get hungry, try snacking on fruit. it realy helped me as the meds made me hungry 24/7. and even though i put on a tiny bit of weight...i wouldnt of put on loads...as i ate fruit whenever i got the munchies.

:D

i hope they do start to work for you,as there working wonders for me
