I had a RTHR 6 weeks ago and am going to have my left hip done in a few months.
I went to a play tonight with my girlfriend but it was a full house and we had to park a long ways away. Our seats were up top so a long stair climb. After the show I had to have my girlfriend pick me up at the front door of the theatre. I haven't walked that far in 8 months. I had been fealing good lately but now it's 2am and I'm in too much pain to sleep.
Even though I feel good I have to remember to take it easy. Baby steps.
Have to say after my "getting back to normal" yesterday and walking more than I have done for quite some months I am stiff this morning. So have done some gentle excercises and walking around the house which has helped
Hi Chris ,
Great that you feel good - it is quite an accomplishment sweetheart -
the walking from car and then going up the stair, wow ... did you use your cane or stick or did you walk and hobbled unaided ?
regardless, it is a lot - you then walked dow the stairs which is also challenging after sitting for a long time -
so sorry that you are in such pain but it is, I think, a normal reaction ... muscles were used you haven't used (properly) for 8 months, maybe longer - you just had major surgery and healing is in early stages -
Ice and elevate and rest - it is okay to take it easy and be gentle with yourself -
big warm hug and I hope you get some zzzz's -
big warm hug

hi chris.
yes we do have to be really careful with what we take on.
i am 12 weeks post op and find myself back in pain for a day or two if i push too hard.
we tend to have a lot of adjustment to make to the compensating movements we adopted pre op.
i find that these are the biggest challenges.
i have great trust that all will resolve if we are focused and committed and pay careful attention to our biomechanics and the messages behind the pain.
i was in a great hurry at first. now i accept and welcome in the 1 year full rehab. this will take me to the optimum skeletal and muscular place.
good luck!
Hi Chris,
And so ... the elation of going out to do something fun and normal, but the frustration of feeling as if you have stepped back a few paces. Sigh.
Poor guy - I hope you were finally able to sleep. Your muscles and other tissues must have been just humming after that 'work-out', sitting in your seats for quite a stretch then the stairs to leave (going down the stairs is far harder for me even now, esp after sitting for a while). Good thing you were wise enough to ask your girlfriend to get the car.
I agree with Sandra - gentle stretches and exercises help me when I have overdone it (quite like a new workout or tournament in the day when that was still part of my life).
I hope you are doing better now and not too down about this experience. The trick is to take it easy for a bit then get back into your routines to strengthen and stretch out all the tissues that have tightened up over the last months - it takes time for them to get limber again.
Please tell me you enjoyed the play at least - not to mention the night out with your girlfriend!!
Take care.

Ice it Hun we have all over done it and regretted it, take it easy tomorrow you just over strained everything rest will help💜
That's quite a lot of stairs and walking - am not surprised you are in discomfort today but sounds like you are doing all the right things - it will pass . Hope the play was good / enjoyable ! Big hug xx
