Pain from Diverticula Disease

I have Diverticula disease which I understand will never go away, that I can live with.

I would like hear from anyone has the same problem, and, if they have pain in their lower left back as well as in the lower left stomach at the same time.

I also wake in the night if I sleep on my left side with pain in both my back and lower left stomach. What pain killers do you recommend and what foods to leave out of my diet. I don't smoke or drink much.

I don't want to keep going back to the Doctors as they only tell me it's my Diverticula problem.

Thanks for reading

I have diverticulisis just finished the antbotics a week or so ago, but last night I had the lower left back pain / ache that woke me from sleep and still have it today :-(  Have dirreah /watery but wasnt sure if its from the prune juice a possible bad sweet piotatoe I ate.  Redshift have you ever had a flare up/ infection was yours diagnosed with CtScan? Do you all ever get nauseated with it even after you are off antibotics?

I was diagnosed by a colonoscopy. Only once have I had antibiotics prescribed by my GP as I try not to go as I get told the same thing. At present I have Pantoprazole 20 mg and Fybogel to take, but I do take paracetamol not that they do much. I don't get nausea or temperature.

Hi,

I too have divertular disease, it sounds like you're describing my symptoms. I spoke to a doctor only a couple days ago and he said it is conmon for the pain to radiate to the back.

I don't take any painkillers personally but just find different ways to manage the cramps. I find going for walks help and I eat a high fibre diet which keeps my stool soft (which is a big help).

My cramps can remain for severel weeks with having to open my bowel at least 4 times a day and then I'll be ok for a couple of weeks, then back to the cramps.

Sounds like what I was told that the pain was caused by the diverticula problem. I eat quite a bit of fruit and either porridge or weetabix for breakfast.

I do like a bit of heat on my side and back which makes me feel a bit easier. Like you I have these bouts of cramp and back pain for a few weeks then it's gone. I wonder if there is a trigger that brings them on, if only I could find out what it is, but, it might have been something that I've eaten days before.

This Pantoprazole 20 mg could be causing some of your symptoms I looked up some f the side affects.

I'm going through a crampy phase at the moment but I've not worked out how to get rid of them completely and have those few weeks of peace.

How long has it been since you have been diagnosed with diverticular disease?

Do you get the pains even without an infection?

It's been several years and a couple of Colonoscopies. I suppose I'm just like everyone else I just get on with things and try and put it out of my mind, but I do have moments when I get grumpy.

I was told infection meant having a temperature and having the nausea feeling, I don't get them not sure why !

Maybe they do but I take so many tablets could be one of them...I will have to look them up as well.

They say 1 in 4 people with diverticular experience persistent pain witout having an infection.

I didn't know that.

baljit1313 do you take any fiber supplement or just eat  high fiber foods?

I did not know that either! Thats scary!

I take some herbel ayurvedic fibre supplement called Triphala.

To clarify the stastistics it says that only 1 in 4 with diverticula have symptoms which is then called diverticular disease, amongst many symptoms very rarely some have persistant pain.
