Pins and needles post bunionectomy

Hi. I have woken in the night with pins and needles in my whole right foot following bunionectomy 3 days ago. Is this the way I have been lying? I tried to sleep with my foot raised on a pillow but I don't expect it stayed there! I'm only managing to sleep for a few hours at a time before the pain wakes me, I'm assuming this is normal in the first few days?? Any tips? 😫

Hello,

I remember waking up to those feelings in my foot in the first week of surgery. I'm now in my 4th wks and I still wake up to weird pains. I recommend ice, ice and more ice and pain meds. Keep up on the pain meds, and elevate. That's really the only thing you can do.it will get better.

Good luck. Wishing you well

Completely agree with Jennifer. Usially, the pain lasts for 3 first days. But doctors even prescribe your tablets for more days, just In Case you need it more. I was with ice first week regularly . You can try ibuprofen, it's also helps with inflammation.

Same here the first week aswell as pain I had the burning sensation, pins and needles, nerve twitching and like the other ladies recommend ice pain relief and elevate I'm still not sleeping brilliant (day 11) but it is getting easier, good luck with your recovery x

It gets better but is normal as your foot is healing. I had a feeling like I imagine frost bite would feel where it doesn't even feel attached to you. A combination of numb, burning, pins and needles and the urge to stretch it seem to dominate my nights but it eases and the symptoms gradually reduce. Also felt like a vice was tightened around the top of my foot and elastic bands between my toes...I thought this was the pins until I saw my Xray and realised they were no where near!  Think it may be tendon related.

you will go through kits of strange twinges and feelings but try not to worry and if you can call for reassurance I found that that helped

good luck and take care

Thanks all. It's great to know the feelings I'm getting are normal! I'm having exactly the same bizarre sensations that sue is having, wondering what is going on under that bandage!! I will rest easy and go with it! Thanks jane 😃
