I've got my orthopedic surgeon meeting at 9 weeks after RTHR, I'm planning to ask about what restrictions apply moving forward, can I drive & return to work, Has anyone got any questions that I should be asking, or wished they had asked when they had theirs? I know when I come out of the meeting I'll think of questions I should have asked so trying to prepare.
Thanks
Alan
What type of work do you normally do Alan at 9 weeks you should be back to driving, and hopefully the 90 degree restriction will be lifted
You could drive now if you get the ok from your GP or surgeon.
I did the same as you and asked loads of questions that afterwards I posted the answers on this site the week before last but you will find that the answers to questions vary from area to area and surgeon to surgeon and physio to physio.
I wished I had asked What exercises and anything else to do long term to keep the hip in good condition for as long as possible
That is a very good question Maggie - I would like to know that too. Longevity of the new joint being the aim.
Also can you ever ride a horse again? A simple hack, not the grand national obviously - but would be so joyful to know I could relatively safely.
Write yourself a list of questions Alan, I came out of my 6 weeks check up a few hours ago, and most questions I asked had common sense answers, but, one thing I think you should ask is, how long does it take for the internal dissolvable stitches to heal, as today at my appointment I learnt that they take a fair bit longer than I thought they would. (Mine will take 90 days)

I work as a delivery driver for a supermarket, so the job involves loading the van, driving and carrying shopping to customers houses or apartment (never on the ground floor!)
I have my 6 week check up next week, what will i expect and what eo i have to ask.

I don't know about your surgeons/counsellors, but mine just gave me information about the surgery, implant and checked mobility - based on that some restrictions were lessened or removed but to always be cautious - I have read posts here of people who went back to horseback riding -
This is what I inten to do --- I have 2 new hips now, expensive right? I will take care of them the best I can - first (BIG SIGH) I will take of the excess weight to lighten the burden and with that get fit - I know it will take time, patience and respect for my body ...
I started my list and one of the items was how can I make the new hip last, as l wrote it down I could feel myself thinking loose weight you fool its plain obvious! Just not that easy to do, but I am determined to make a start.
