hi everyone I hope your all doing well. I just wanted some advice really. I am day 11 post op today (had everything removed and don't know the technical term for it). The last 11 days have been like a roller coaster I have been so tired and that's all I have done is rest. I feel in more pain and discomfort now than when I came home. One side of my scar is healingerfect whilst the other side I's very sore and has been bleeding. I feel as though I have done 20 rounds in a bull ring. Is this normal? I was hoping that I would be getting a bit better now

Hi Shelley, poor you, you sound like you are having a bit of a rough time, if your wound is weeping (bleeding) you need to see your GP sooner rather than later just to be certain no infection has set in. You will feel very tired, I am 8 weeks post op and still get tired all of a sudden, when I first came out of hospital I was almost to the point of falling asleep in my lunch/dinner/whatever, you know like kids do LOL! I'm not quite that bad now.
Hi Shelley
It just goes to show how different we all are. I have had no tiredness at all (I am 16 days post op and mine was a straightforward vaginal hysterectomy). Trouble is I had no pain or discomfort whatsoever so came out of hospital thinking I could do it all! As a result I have overdone things and had some considerable bleeding over the past week. Spent all day yesterday back in bed and am doing the same today - so far so good, the bleeding has stopped. But I also feel I am going backwards! I don't think there is any such thing as a normal recovery but I do hope you at least get some effective pain relief and some of your energy back.
Best of luck

Hi Shelley. Good advice from others so far about your wound. Get it checked. The tiredness is totally normal. Apparently there are natural chemicals at work that deliberately make you sleepy so you rest and heal. Did you have a blood transfusion? Significant blood loss can contribute to fatigue. If you are seeing your GP maybe get your iron levels checked. My consultant told me that donor blood just ain't as good as your own and after 28 days is no longer much good which he thinks explained how fatigue hit me like a sledge hammer after a month. I can hardly describe it but I felt so bad I could hardly lift a tea cup! It will get better but this op is a slow recovery. I'm coming up to 12 weeks now and due back at work soon. I'm still tired and sore in the tummy by mid afternoon if I've been fairly active. Rest as much as you can.
