To cut a long story short, after tests found a 10cm fibroid and a few other little ones, hospital decided best option for me was uterine fibroid embolization, having had this done approximately 3 months ago, the bleeding is not so heavy like it was, and pain was never really much of a problem anyway, after being discharged, the pain was quite bad for about 2 weeks, and then gradually it eased off, but all of a sudden the pain over the last week or so has been bad to the point of not really being able to walk, my temperature is at the top end of the norm, my consultant said it's more than likely the fibroid starting to break down, and if my temp goes up then to go back immediately, just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them, the intramural fibroid is on left but pain is all over my pelvic area and quite strong down right side, like a stich but much worse!!
Hi Andrea, I recently had Embolisaton on the 4th November. Prior to this I was on Esmaya tablets, and nearly completed taking them for the 6 months. During this time, I had no periods, and generally felt so much better. The day before my procedure I had a very heavy period - which was quite baffling, as there were no indication -pain, backache etc, as i experience prior to taking Esmaya.
I am still bleeding since the procedure, but not as heavy.
I too am in pain, and have requested stronger pain killers from my GP. This is mainly in my stomach. It is early days for me, and hoping the procedure has worked, as this is the 2nd time Ive had this, as it clearly did not work the first time!
I have been informed that everything should settle down, within 7-10 days, moreso, as I am due back to work.
I wont see results until after 3-4 months (so ive been told), so until then I will just have to take each day at a time.
Go back to your GP, as your are really suffering. Let me know how you get on
Hi Yvonne, hope it works for you this time, fingers crossed, what is esmaya? ?
Hi Andrea
Esmaya is a pre-operative tablet, that should help to reduced the size of fibroids, so that any surgery is less invasive. Its a fairly new drug, and is only licenced for 6 months. It worked for me, in the sense that I had no pain, at all, and my periods stopped. Everyone experience differenct side effect, such as tiredness, and some may bleed still, whilst taking. But for me it was a 'miracle drug', but unfortunately for a short time
Hello girls.
I'm to have a UFE on Tuesday actually.
I'm nervous about the procedure, since I haven't had kids yet and really really want to.
My docs thinks that UFE is my best chance not myomectomy as women like me are mostly advices to pick, if they want to keep their fertility.
So I'm nervous.
But haven't been nervous about the pain though. Thought that to be my least problem.
But hearing your story makes me rethink. Alway good to know what you're in for.
But Yvonne, you've had this procedure done twice???
Because it didn't work the first time...
And they think that having a second treatment will be different?
Do u have the same docs this second time around?
I also has been on Esmya for 6 months... Didn't work at all for me...
And Andrea.
My fibroids sound just like yours. The location, size and number of fibroids.
I hope someone else can get back to you that has more expirience.
I'm case you're interested, there's a support group on FB - women all over the world that has fibriods.
The group is just called Fibroids. Maybe u can find someone there that has some experience in this. I've had some great help from all these ladies, not feeling so along with these problems.
Good luck!!
Hi Cookiesson
The first time i went through the procedure, My arteries were quite hard, and there was a chance the procedure wouldnt work. It was the same consultant that performed the procedure - who is the best. I am sure this one is more successful
Good luck and be sure to let us know how you get on, the success rate is very high for this for this procedure, suppose we just have to be patient as they say it can take up to 6 months to work, 😯
So.
I'm now 4 days post my UFE... And still NOTHING!!
I don't feel a thing.
No pain at all. No flu like symptoms... I stopped eating painkillers at the hospital...
If any of the docs that I've seen would have predicted this as a possible outcome... I would have been prepared.
But they just told me that I should prepare for some real pain in the beginning and after that, take it one day at a time...
I've prepared for this procedure for the last 2 years... Mentally. Going through the agony of whether to choose a UFE or a myomectomy, since I haven't had babies yet and I AM to have a baby.
I've been more than direct with my intentions. Every doc I've met knows my agenda.
And of course I know that everyone reacts differently to any kind of procedure done to the body.
But no reaction at all...
It just makes me feel like nothing has worked...
How did U feel Yvonne, the first time U had the UFE done? The time it didn't work.
Was it different from this time?
What did all of your docs tell U?
Did they prepare U for pain, sever pain, mo pain?
You both have had babies I guess?
I had problems with Swedish docs before this... I can say that this hasn't really put more trust Into that sit...
So thankful for some input in this matter. What ever. Just to have someone to talk to that sort of knows what I'm going through...
