Hey there,
About 6 weeks ago I woke up in the morning with a sharp pain on my right side. It wasn't bad enough to make me double over so I didn't think it was appendicitis. After a week of it getting a little better but not going away I went to the doctor. She didn't seem too concerned and thought it was probably due to a recent, drastic diet change and stress from a recent break up.
Here is a rundown of everything relevant I can think of.
Male, early 30s, lean, active (crossfit 5x's a week, mountain bike 3x's a week), don't smoke, drink socially with friends a few times a week.
Ate a plant-based diet for a year and a half.
In March started eating a little bit of meat and eggs again, only a few times a week. Dairy maybe once every other week.
In April went through a pretty rough breakup.
In May went out for a weekend with some friends and drank a bunch of sour beers that usually upset my tummy.
Woke up a few days later with the sharp pain in my right side. At first it was under/behind my right ribcage. Over about a week to a week and a half it has dulled to a pressure pain and migrated straight down to above my right hip.
Now it isn't there all the time but it does seem to show up 1-3 times a day, most often about an hour after I've eaten but not always. Seems like it may be a little worse when eating high fiber foods like an avocado.
I take a probiotic once in the morning and evening, eat fermented foods pretty regularly, drink kombucha a few times a week, and eat almond milk yogurt a few times a week also.
I've always been told I have IBS since it seems like my digestive system moves a little more quickly than it should. Lately I've noticed looser stools with undigested foods pretty regularly.
