Random sinus nose pressure no other symptoms?

Hey guys, I have had random sinus pressure for the last few weeks. At the top of my nose near both eyes I've had this random pressure feeling. Barely any pain but every now and then a slight pulse of tiny pain in my sinuses, sometimes left eye or right or above eye etc but only a hand full of times a day. What happens is the first two hours after I wake up symptoms are best and feel great but as day progresses pressure happens on the bridge of my nose and gets worse until I sleep.

I have had doctor prescribe antihistamines which don't work, tried ibuprofen which also doesn't work. This is so weird it only annoyes me but doesn't really hurt at all. Pressure just seems to go away after I sleep but return about 2 hrs after I wake up.

No other symptoms and am healthy in every other way only thing stopping me going to doc again is the fact it doesn't hurt and no congestion no headache no nothing other than pressure there. What could this be? I noticed that when I wear glasses the bridge of my nose feels this same pressure but would go away from constant use of glasses and went away as soon as taken off but now it's just there about 70 percent of the day. Intensity alternates throughout day but majority of time it's worse just before I sleep.

Wtf is this I would go to doc but feels like this is just something that will go away. Everytime I go wow this is annoying and bad I think ok time to see doc but then maybe 15Min later dies down a bit and I'm like hmm maybe it will go away been like this a few weeks any ideas?

No idea what it is but you could try taking a capsule (1000mg) of evening primrose oil daily.  It's not expensive, although I prefer to get it from a health-food shop as the cheaper brands may have low quality ingredients, and it won't do any harm and you may find it helps.  It helps your body skip a stage in converting something(!) into GLA - one of the essential fats you need. Ensuring you get enough of this GLA helps everything and many (including myself) swear its helped fix chronic sinus problems.  

Also, try cutting out dairy products for maybe 3 weeks.  You may be a bit intolerant without realising it and, if you improve after the 3 weeks then get worse when you start eating dairy again, that might be a clue!

On the principle of we are what we eat, take a look at your diet in general and see if there's too much sugar or other 'bad' things.  If your body is struggling to cope with something (e.g. the dairy foods) it can show up as a sinus problem.

I'm sorry this is not very specific - but it might be more help than the doctor has been!

I've got almost the same symtoms. Top of that I have GERD and it may be related to it. Couldn't bear the pain so went to a doc who diagnosed it as allergic rhinitis. I'm supposed to stay away from diary and citrus. Run every morning to boost steroids. I'm using two nasal spray for 30 days days and antihistamine tablet for 10 days. After 5 days of use my symtoms have improved, but still have noticeable pain. Hoping it gets better.

Also do you have no pain while eating? If so, chew gum regularly. It does not pain if you chew gum.

I barely have any pain whatsoever its more just pressure on the bridge of my nose and it's driving me nuts. I don't drink milk at all. I hope it gets better soon.

Have you tried a nasal rinse?

No I have not I might give that a try actually is it a spray or like those saline rinses? Thank you.

No. Have a look at netti pot or neilmed. It’s purified water mixed with salt. 

How are you feeling now? I have very similar symptoms and had sinus surgery 2 weeks ago however my symptoms still persist. This has been driving me insane the last few months I would give anything to get rid of the pressure. 

Took about 3 months and it went away. Just hold on and hopefully it will resolve soon. I was so tired of it but day by day it went slowly but now I never get it. Not sure what caused it drs never found out but thank God it's gone. Trust me there's hope at the other side. Just keep going at it and it should go away. Try not to think about it and keep yourself busy.

I also have this random pressure on the bridge of my nose and also in the corner of each eye. I have suffered now for 3 years, have tried antibiotics, nasal sprays, rinses and anti anxiety medication. Also have been to seen several ENT, Eye Doctors and Neurologists specialists, and cannot find an answer.

Are you still OK Brendon? And are you OK now Matt?

Have you any idea what caused it or have any further advice what or who maybe able to help?

Hi Jason, I have not experienced this issue for over a year now. I never found the cause for this problem but it just eventually went away by itself. I wish I could help you more but unfortunately I don’t know why it went away. The only things that have me relief was exhaling out my nose while i had my fingers blocking my nose. This would cause pressure build up with air everywhere in my sinus and it got rid of the pressure just for a few moments while i held my breathe.

I am not sure if you have the same thing I had but i could swear it’s also a mental thing when i had it. If i concentrated on the pressure it would increase and get worse. When I am busy and forgot about the pressure, i don’t notice it at all until i remember about it and then it comes back. Exercise and going to the gym helped me forget about it at times and the more i forgot the more it went away. Have you tried different antihistamines for allergies? I’m sorry to hear you have this but try go on in life without thinking about it as much as you can. In the end i had this issue for about a year and a bit and it eventually would lessen each day until i got it every other day and then maybe twice a week then only before bed then it went to few times a month and now nothing. I do believe there was a physical cause but I know for me parts of it was mental as well. As i said i could focus on it and make it more intense. If i had a busy day at work i might forget about it for a little bit and it wouldn’t bother me. One last thing i remembered was hot showers with heaps of steam actually helped with the pressure. Sorry I couldn’t help more but if it went away for me it could go away for you.

I just wanted to add. I also took a multivitamin everyday, ate good. Drank 8 glasses of water a day. Never overslept or underslept as i believe oversleeping was a major cause for me. I did daily exercises etc. This ensured I was getting good fitness, had adequate rest and didnt oversleep, and had enough water. Im not sure if it helped physically but i would give that a go for a couple months it definitely help me mentally think that i was much healthier. I did this to try and make myself as healthy as possible so as to see if it would go away. Good luck. Prior to doing any of this i overslept ate badly didnt exercise didnt drink enough water had bad routines.

Thank you for your email, I really appreciate your response. I know it’s not the worse condition in the world, but it’s frustrating and relentless, so I really want to get to the bottom of it.

I was interested when you said about when wearing glasses that the bridge of your nose feels this same pressure, as this is exactly what I am experiencing. I have used the same expression when explaining to doctors about how it feels. Can I ask do you wear contact lenses at times? and if so, was the condition worse when you did? Wearing glasses kind of masks this pressure for me, but my contact lenses help me to focus more, so I prefer wearing them, but then the pressure is worse.

After being referred to various specialists, including allergy specialists, I have exhausted many possibilities, so the only option left maybe some kind of mental issue and exercising more maybe the best thing to try and generally trying to be a little more healthier.

I actually don’t wear glasses all the time. Only for using the computer or reading. I’ve never used contact lenses so I can’t comment. Ive noticed if i force myself to wear new glasses, the pressure actually ends up going away. It’s like my nose has to get used to it. I think you should just try be healthier in as many aspects as you can and you might find that it will randomly go away. I could say it did help me doing that. It mentally made me feel like I was actually helping my body so maybe that helped me mentally as well. Just give it a try and kind of live life forgetting about it as much as you can. Let me ask you one thing, when you feel the pressure, can you focus on the pressure more and does it get more intense when you focus on it. It did for me so thats what led me to believe that my mind had something to do with it.

I am healthy, it’s just that I spend too much time at the computer working, so could do with exercising a little more than I do.

As far as weight and eating healthy and not drinking too much, that’s all fine, just need to find time to be more active, which I will try.

I get this pressure about 80% of the time, over the 3 years that I have had it. I really do not try and focus too much on it, but yes I would say at times when I have noticed its bad, I have focused on it more and its then got worse.

Anyway thanks for the advice, and will see if exercising more will help

Hi Jason, the big one for me was probably sleeping the proper amount each night and not oversleeping on the weekends. I also spent lots of time on the computer so maybe that could be related to this. Good luck with everything and I hope it works out great for you.

My sleeping seems about right, but far too long at the computer and not enough moving around, so will work on that.

Does you nose crackle from the pressure sometimes?

You guys with pressure around sinus areas without other sinus symtpoms might press your teeth against at night.
The muscles are really near to the sinus areas and also nose bones which can lead to pressure and tension.
Its normal that sometimes it feels less and sometimes more because the muscles tension keeps changing. But if theres a base tension which came from the night teeth pressing or clenching it can cause several symptoms.
