Scar tissue popping loose

Had right hip posterior replacement the first part of December 2017.

A few days ago while doing steps in therapy I had some pulling in the outer thigh muscle and an extremely painful POP!  The pain almost brought me to my knees.  Therapist and doctor agree that it was scar tissue breaking up.  There's not much about this on the internet. Has anyone else had this happen?

The thigh muscle above the 'pop' is now extremely sore.  It didn't hurt to walk before but now I am back to walking with a cane.  It is worse when I step forward with the non-operated leg.  I'm doing some prescribed stretches to loosen the painful muscle.  It's been only 4 days but I feel like it has been a huge setback.

Tiffany, so sorry for your new pain! I don't see how the therapist and doctor could know for sure that it was scar tissue breaking that is causing the pain, especially such severe pain. You could have pulled/injured tissue in the muscle that has nothing to do with a scar. Usual first line treatment for non-bone injury is RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation. If you don't improve in a reasonable amount of time, I would get back to the physician for further help/diagnosis. I would think it would be somewhat better in 4 days if it were a minor problem. Good luck getting to the bottom of this.

Update, went back to the surgeon this morning.  His revised opinion is that the gluteus maximus muscle has torn loose from where he reattached it when he was finished with the replacement.  Rest and recovery plus a round of steroids are what he recommended.  Hopefully it does heal over without needing surgery.  It's so hard to be patient but I have no choice.
