13 weeks out from left hip replacement. Was finally feeling better then bad thigh pain. Dr put me on prednisone but no improvement X-ray looks good and hip feels good but this thigh pain burning is driving me nuts. Anyone else having this problem?
Sorry about your troubles, Susan. Soft tissue injuries are fairly common after joint replacement. The prostheses may be fine, settling into their places in the bones. But muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues can be stressed and strained, even torn, at any time, whether we have surgery or not.
Is your thigh pain on top or side? If on the side, it could be https://patient.info/health/greater-trochanteric-pain-syndrome, and the link goes to an excellent article right here in Patient.
It's on the top seems to be a lump and hurts worse when you touch it thanks
Hi Susan,
sounds very similar to my first THR thigh pain from muscles in the thigh like spasms swelling from surgery and a IT band tears.
i had a neuclar MRI showing tiny tears 😭 in the iT band that was trapped by muscles . The IT band iliotibial band is a tough group of fibers that run along the outside of the thigh. The gluteal muscles and the tensor fascia muscle attach to the top, and the lower part attaches to the tibia, just below the knee. It functions primarily as a stabilizer walking running and can become irritated from recovery while struggling to walk exercise or getting in and out of a sitting positions. Remember the hip restrictions 90' angle and it also weakens the knee. The part of the knee or lower thigh is often worsened by going up or down stairs, or getting out of a car.
It's always something after THR been thru 2 & I can sympathize with the agony that this pain can cause. Rest and heat and water therapy are my best pics to feel better. Time and PT Will get you back on your feet so to speak.
Hopexxxx
I'd suggest you go back to the doctor and tell him no improvement with the prednisone and the level of your pain. He, or someone else experienced with thigh injuries should be able to diagnose and treat your problem.
Heat seems to make it worse and I plan on calling the Dr in the morning I thank you for your help take care.
calling Dr in the morning want to feel better
O that is the best thing to do that way tests and whatever will give you diagnosis and peace of mind just to know and how to treat the problem.
Keep posting let us know how your are doing and what it could be.
I bet your overwhelmed with all the different responses. As long as it isn't red hot or swollen I'm hoping you'll be OK! 😊
Hopexxx
Hi Susan .I had terrible thigh pain before the surgery and have it in my right hip that needs to be replaced. The femur fracture on my left obscures true knowledge of pain to my operative leg as I am still having to use a rollator due to the fracture. Can You research physical therapy exercises to strengthen the area once they have pinpointed the exact problem..It seems they need to do General to specific exercises.
hi susan ,
great responses !
what did your Dr . tell you ?
is it a constant pain? can you stand on your operated leg ?
aches and pain in the hip can persist for a long time because bone, a living tissue, continues to re-model and adapt around the metal implants -
do you have physical therapy ?
please come back and let us know how you are getting on okay?
big warm hug

Hi Susan,
I suggest you go back to doctor and tell him no improvement and you still have a pain. Sorry about your trouble. I hope you will
feel better soon.
Hug Madla🌹
I had nerve damage and was put on amityrptaline worked well. Painful and lumpy thigh is often due to muscles tightening up and going into spasm.
Had good massage and it helped although was painful at time. Hope all works out for you x
Another possibility is a version of cramp. I had terrible trouble with them earlier in my OA as the changes in muscle function hit. I had methacarbomal for them.
Hopefully the doctor will be able to provide some answers to put Susan at ease
Hi there does it feel like your sitting on a lump
