Scar

I have been surfing around this forum on tips of how to get rid of this pesky limp and alot of you have some great tips! Thank you.

But now i am wondering about my scar. Its on the front of my thigh and seem to be tightening up. When i am on my back it. pinches like it needs to be stretched....does that make any sense to anyone?

I would massage it with oil or lotion everyday- use a bit of force so you can break up any calcification and keep things moveable.

Hi Judith

How old is the scar and have you used anything on it?

My physio told me to massage along the line of the scar using fingertips in a circular motion. I put bio oil on it every day but others use vitamin e cream, aquaeous cream etc.

When I had my first op I bought some cream called Kelocote as I was worried I would get a keloid scar as I had done with a previous op. It was very expensive in a small tube but seemed to work well on my scar. Try looking it up it might be of help - it can be used on old and new scars.

Hi

My physio told me to put some cream on ( I'm using Aveeno) and massage the scar back and forth across it. He said as I do it to push harder either side of the scar where the scar tissue is.

He said the layers of the skin stick together making the skin tight and this helps to release the layers.

I hope that makes sense!

Yes, it makes sense. Have you tried gentle massage? Also bio-oil is very good.wink

I can't give a lot of advice because I'm only 5 weeks post op but my friend who is four years post op said bio oil massaged into scar is good

How soon do you start massaging the scar.  I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op - is this too soon?

I have just started and I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op but it's how you feel? Make sure wound is healed before you start though good luck

I guess I am not a good one to ask. Therapy said to massage with oil, doctor said to do nothing it will flatten, fade and stretch on its own. I am 14 weeks and it is no longer lumpy and not as tight, mine is on my side and I'm not too worried about it fading, my warrior scar haha

My Physio advised to start at 4 weeks, but I guess it depends how your scar has healed. : )

seem to be healing well...don't like to look at it realy but i am coming up on the four weeks on thursday. Physio is coming by this week so i will as her.

Thanks Linnet..bio oil seems to be the top of everyones recomendations..as i am still house bound i will send one of my minions ,also known as children..out to get me a bottle...thanks!

Thanks Ruth...i am right behind you coming up on four weeks on thursday..hope you are healing well!

Had absolutely no problems with the scar, until today- as I was getting back into thecar after 1.2maile walk, it felt like it was coming apart ........... really sore for a couple of minutes.

It's all OK, but it was a bit alarming at the time.

Just shows, you cannot let your guard down.
