Sertaline- help please! Urgent!

Hi all,

I took my first sertaline 10 hours ago... Within 5 minutes of taking it I was getting agonising stabbing pains... That lasted for about half an hour... And I've had extreme toilet troubles since...

I've checked the side effects leaflet n it doesn't list these symptoms as a side effect,..

Anyone else had this problem? Or have I got food poisoning ??

Please help ... I'm really worried

It will be running through you this is normal unfortunately same happend to me wasnt bothersome as i was constipated before the meds anyway so it was a relife that i had the runs for the first few days. It will vanish before you know it.

Hi !! Sorry to hear your having side effects , could I ask where are u experiencing these pains??

In my stomach... It really was that bad I was nearly crying... Then with my anxiety as it is... I've convinced mysel I'm Gona die sad

Stay calm these tablets are rough on the stomach, it will be gone before you know it.

This maybe a side effect as Scott said , this is a slight side effect with me , I'm only 8 days in but see how u are tomorrow an maybe give ur doctor a ring xx

It says on the leaflet take with or without food.... I didn't have food with it,

Anybody any ideas what is best?

Tbh ... I'm scared of eating now as I don't want it to come straight out x

Sertraline can certaintly cause diaherra (I cant spell that word but you know what I mean!) and its normal to get an upset stomach, I do from time to time and i am on 100mg. Just kee hydrated and try not to worry.

Where are the pains? Are they in your stomach? What dose are you on? If it persists you could always ask at a chemist, or if you are really worried go to a walk in centre. I know when I started sertraline I was so scared of side effects that I was on high alert for any altered/different bodily sensations.. and sometimes these arent caused by the drugs but may have occured anyway! It could be a number of things unrelated to the drug. My GP recently told me sertraline is generally well tolerated and has fewer side effects than other anti-depressants. If worried please do see your GP!

I have a banana or small meal before a tablet it does help. Try drink peppermint tea or camomile tea aswell as that helps flush it through. Or simply sib boiled water

camomile tea is really helpful I find, very calming! I have a cup most nights smile

Thank you Jane and Scott!

You have both been so quick on replying to me,.,

I am I due for more of the same tomorrow then??

Hope not!! I'm at church in the morning!! Lol

I remember a GP saying to me that she could give me things to help with side effects, such as an upset stomach and insomnia, she was lovely but  I havent seen her in ages as my docs always so full and booked up sad Anyway if the problem persists you can ask for something to help symptoms. As for tomorrow, I hope it goes okay at church and hopefully toilets nearby, but try not to worry too much and just distract yourself with the church service, as distraction is really important I find. If it gets too much Im sure they wont mind you popping out. It has been annoying for me but not too bad and it will disappear, it's nothing to worry about smile x

The stomach issue is actually very common, I had it for the first two days of taking it but then it went. It says you can take with or without food but my doctor recommended to take it with food at the same time of the day (roughly). Was probably a real shock for your stomach to deal with without anything else in there :S .

Thanks everyone!

I have made it through the night. Lol

Decided against taking the Sertaline until I'm back from church...

Hopefully today won't be as bad 😉

Hello,

I'm on day 5 now - I tend to take my pills before bed as in right before bed. I also have had an upset tummy and also complete depleation of appetite ! (Unlike me)

My anixity was through the roof last week , but I see a therapist and have good family and friends whom allow me to talk about it - if anything this is the best medicine :-) I always feel so much better when I've had a chat and been open about what's upsetting me .

I hope church went well x

Hi, I'm on day 4 of sertraline. How is everyone else coping in the first week. I had a few drinks last night hope it didn't set me back. Just wanted a break from the lethargic brain fog I'm stuck in. Not been able to do anything for days. Hope this lifts

Hi Sarah !! I'm on day 10 and to be honest apart from slight headaches an going to the loo more often I've had a real good first week and half , just hope it keeps getting better , my fog is slowly lifting and it feels such a relief x

Im on day 19 and not really seeing anything as yet still got that brain fog and the feeling your spaced out first week was great then slowly feel slipping back but the first week may of been a therapeutic period then starts to kick in. Still nearly 3 weeks is to early for this type of medicine to feel back to normal. Normally takes 4 to 6 weeks but ive decided to up my dose from 50 to 100 if im not feeling anything by the 4 weeks mark. We will all get there its just a trailand error and seeing what dose works. Im almost certain i will have to up the dose but im looking forward to it to be honest.

Hi Scott go u mind me asking wat ur talking sertraline for ??

Course not, taking it for GAD and obssesive thoughts plus ive had social anxiety for about 8 months now so needed something to take the edge off. Still feel awful when im talking to people i just cant put my finger on it yet why its happening but will hopefully get there
