Hello was after some advice/insight or anyones personal experience if anyone can help please! I've recently had 2 children and there is 11 months between them, ive been suffering in silence with depression for month but a few weeks ago decided I couldn't cope anymore and I sort professional help, I was referred to a mother and baby unit where I have had a couple of one to one sessions and have now been prescribed sertraline 50mg. I really don't fancy taking the medication because im concerned about the side effects (I have 4 children and work) and im afraid that I won't be able to function on them.
Dear Lindz, please note that it takes 4 to 8 weeks for Sertraline to kick in and you will have side effects during this period....So if you can cope with the side effects ..after it kicks in.....you should feel fine.
Just to let you know so that if you do feel terrible for the first month or two know it is the Sertraline ....Like I said if you can stick it out...those side effects will disappear and you should be fine.

Hello lindz
I'm not very experienced as only been taking for 5 weeks but I'm weaning off them already. I have a 2yr old and not had post natal depression but my little boy was in hospital start of his life and my best friend passed away at Christmas so felt pain and grief like never before. Having had mild/moderate depression for years I decided to try anti depressants again.
I wish that I hadn't and read this forum first or never read this forum to get scared in first place! I've not had that bad side effects compared to some. I'm not sleeping well & feel exhausted due to this and have lost weight. I can function but if I get a migraine or nausea I struggle. I've been looking at natural ways to boost serotonin levels and seriously going to focus on that. I hope that'll work for me.
However we are all individual and not everyone has probs with it, maybe a short period on the meds will make you feel much better. I'm going to speak to my pharmacist too for advice as may know more than gp.

Hi Lindz,
I came onto this forum as I was prescribed Sertraline (for anxiety & stress) but was worried about the side effects. A lot of the posts on here made my concerns worse & I'd almost decided not to take it but after feeling really low & suffering another panic attack (which I hadn't had since taking beta blockers), I decided to give the tablets a try & I'm so glad I did!!
I'm on 50mg & did suffer for the first few days with nausea & headaches but to be honest it felt similar to the early stages of being pregnant & I found drinking lots of water & eating when I felt nauseous really helped. (So much for the loss of appetite & weight loss I was kind of hoping for!! 😄
I have only been taking them for 2 & a half weeks but they have really done wonders for me. I have been signed off work since Jan, & unable to go anywhere near it or even talk about it workout getting upset/anxious but since taking sertraline I have been in to see my boss & have discussed starting to return. I still suffer nausea a little (but I have always suffered with motion sickness so think
I am prone) but would definitely recommend giving it a try.
I have also started running as exercise a good natural way to release 'happy hormones'.
Good luck & let us know what you decide/how you get on.
😄
