Hi all, I was just wondering when you get woken up after the operation does it feel like you have been asleep a long time or does it feel like seconds? I'm having my op in April & haven't had a big op before.

Being a bit of an expert iv had all my ops done under GA and when you finally wake up properly as its quite groggy it does actually only feel like seconds have gone by. This op is going to be under spinal and sedation and i dont know how that will feel yet haha.
When is your op? X
Hi Joanne I had never had big op before and was petrefied x but honestly was great went in to a room of theatre they were chatting to me the next thing I know I'm being woken up by a lovely nurse in recovery and it felt like I had been asleep minutes lol x good luck with op and becoming pain free:-) xxx
Hi Sarah, I've read yr posts & you are really going through the mill !! My op is 12th April x
Thank you Vanessa, that's really good to hear! x
Haha have you? And my op is April the 11th providing i dint get cancelled again.
Where are you getting yours done.
Try not to worry though, you wont feel or remember anything haha x
I read that you was cancelled! I know exactly how you feel, I've had 5 cancellations now. I'm having it done in London. Where are you having yrs done? x
5? All for this one op? Id be trying to get in at a different hospital if that was me. Id be heartbroken. So sorry to hear that.
Im having mine done at Sunderland Royal Hospital haha. Iv had all 11 of mine done there and will be getting this op and my shoulder surgery there to xx
I did change to another hospital, this is my 4th date with the other hospital.
11 ops!! Omg 😳 x
Not a silly question at all. I was absolutely terrified and also had never had an operation before. The anaesthetic was fine and works immediately and when I woke up I Just felt a bit groggy but within an hour I was listening to the radio and drinking tea. Good luck! :-)
Thank you basia. Sounds good to me x
Ohh id be heartbroken. Im getting nervous because i know the doctors are striking again soon so hoping that doesnt effect us xx
We should be okay, I think the next strike is towards the end of April.
I just think I've been really unlucky with all my cancellations, that many doesn't normally happen.
I've been chillin on this forum for 10 months now and I've seen a lot of people come and go, finally finally I think it's my turn, I don't think I'll get cancelled again. I'm having a bilateral so if I get cancelled that's the surgeons whole morning up the creek. So fingers crossed for both of us 👍🏻 x
Hi Joanne, not a silly question at all, but it seems like 5 mins, you are talking to anethysist ,next thing your in bed in the ward. I'm 5 weeks today, I also had 4 cancellations this tear 1 due to dr going on annul leave and the other 3 dr strike. I was pulling my hair out to be honest , you build yourself up with cobfidence only to be let down, we'll all five and dusted now, Please God the only way us up now. good luck for the opp in April, keep us all Informed xxxx
Hi Joanne,
It took me a while when I woke up to remember where I was. My first words on waking up were "Oh, I was having a lovely dream". So yes, it must have felt like I was just waking up from sleep. That was spinal and sedative. I didnlt feel groggy as far as I remember. My nurse in recovery said "Oooh, last one back and first one awake", so I must have woken up pretty soon after coming in from theatre. Don't remember anything about the op.

Aww well i hope we both get sorted and that the strike doesnt effect us haha. But if i was you i would have put in a complaint by now.
The only reason they had issues rescheduling me is because they had to reorder the specilist equipment needed for my surgery and the fact its an all day surgery kinda makes it harder hahaha. Im just a difficult person habaha xxx
By the way Joanne - no questions here are silly x
Hi Nell, it seems we have both been really unlucky with our dates, I'm pleased you finally got yrs done
Yes it's a bit of a nightmare being cancelled so much, the last time I was cancelled I'd got the hospital gown in my hand ready to put on and go to theatre. Never mind, all good things come to those who wait lol. The main problem is the deterioration from first going to see the doctor 2 years ago. X
That's good to hear Cels, I don't like the thought of waking up and feeling like I've been asleep for hours & hours. Can you remember what you was dreaming about? X
Hi I had my operation on 12th March. I was terrified as I was having a spinal and sedation not a general. I can honestly say it was ok I initially fell asleep and then woke up. It was like I was in the theatre aware of what was going on , i could hear everything but did not see anything. It felt like it wasn't me having the operation I never felt a thing and seemed to be over in a few minutes. The good thing was I went to recovery wide awake and feeling good and then back to my room in no time. I had a cup of tea and a sandwich within an hour of my surgery. It took a while for the feeling to come back to my legs but that was not a bad thing as I was pain free. I would definitely have a spinal and sedation if I need further surgery. I'm usually very nauseous with general anesthetics but was fine with the spinal. Good luck you will be fine
